Donic was huge in China in the 2000s, primarily because of Desto F1 in the early part of the decade, which was (and still is) the go-to BH rubber for many people, and then Coppa JO Gold/Silver in the later part of the decade. Baracuda, Acuda S1/S1 Turbo and Bluefire M1 series since late 2009 and in the early 2010s pushed their profit and brand awareness to another level but then things started going the other way around 2014. Ironically, Donic has done better since 2021 (with profit back up to 2013-level) after Ovtcharov left for Butterfly at the start of 2020, which I felt was Donic ditching him instead.

Over at Tieba, many users (likely young newcomers from their responses) think of Donic and Stiga as second-rate brands now.

any other major company surely can offer a better then Butterfly.
those who opt to stay with Butterfly, is mere for its quality and not really for its freebies/monies. That is atleast from what I can tell with over a dozen of sponsored players

ESN Pricing stategy is very bad, so the Donics of the world are all affected
Donic price point won't survive in China, even with with them sponsoring a coach like Zjk.

would ZJK be enough? no.. Donic needs a complete marketing and product pricing strategy makeover.

He might not be playing anymore but if he's coaching a lot, especially if the coaching is available online he's still a big influence in the market. If ZJK says "Watch me do this. I do this with Donic equipment." It will make plenty of people buy donic equipment.

People always want the equipment their favorite players use. If the CNT changed sponsorship from DHS to anything else, H3 would be forgotten overnight and replaced in the market with whatever the new thing is.

So 500k per year I very much doubt.

You probably cannot read Chinese because in the Chinese source it clearly says it’s his current deal with Donic and it also mentions Zhang Jike had a 10M CNY/year contract with Anta, a Chinese sport clothing brand, so it’s safe to assume they meant a yearly salary by the 4-5M CNY but I think it’s still not worth it for Donic even for a 3-4 year long deal.
But again, there’s no proof that it’s really that much, so take it with a pinch of salt
