In the latest video interview with 新世相/Xinshixiang, ZYL finally talked about Ito Mima being a thorn in her side and how she was keen for the opportunity and had been training to defeat her upon her return. She kept Ito's setup in the racket case at all times of the sparring partner that she hired who didn't play pips just in case someone plays that style so that she can lend that person one to use. She added that the win at US Smash 2025 has removed the thorn and healed her illness.

(After returning to the world’s elite ranks, Zhu Yuling continues to ask herself: Why do I play?)
https://news.qq.com/rain/a/20260919A086Z700

(Three months later, at the US Smash, she defeated both Wang Manyu and Shin Yubin. In the semifinal, she faced her old rival Ito Mima once again. She went on to win the title, climbing to sixth in the world rankings. In an interview with Guyu Lab, she described that victory as a "special, context-dependent version" of her game: the thin air, low atmospheric pressure, and low humidity in Las Vegas affected the speed, spin, and trajectory of the ball—conditions that favored her style of play, which relies on knowing exactly when not to exert full force. "In a different setting, I certainly wouldn't have beaten her (Wang Manyu) [TL's note: Chen Yi, rather?] in the final; and even if we played again in that same location, I’m confident she wouldn't lose."

The semifinal match against Ito Mima drew significant attention, and she was asked about it by reporters repeatedly before the match even began. Leading up to the clash, she revisited the footage of their 2018 Swedish Open encounter, watching it from start to finish. Analyzing the match as an objective observer—tracking the first three shots and the subsequent rallies—she realized that the opponent she had built up in her mind was "even more formidable than the real person."

Seven years after their last encounter, she emerged victorious. Some remarked that Zhu Yuling’s "Olympic journey" had come to an end that summer.

After the match, back in the locker room, she caught a glimpse of the scar from her surgery and felt a sense of relief. "I truly admire Ito Mima as an athlete. The wounds I carried in my heart weren't just from that one loss to her—they stemmed from everything else surrounding it." For her, this match felt more like a victory over her former self. Yet, she has no intention of parting ways with the scar. "Why should I get rid of it? It’s simply a part of who I am.")
