What aspects make a tt shoe special in comparison with a regular indoor shoe?

Is there such a thing as a regular indoor shoe ? Nowadays I thought they were all "designed" for one sport or another.

Pretty much with thin and flat sole which facilitate lateral movement and not meant for jumping.

BTW anyone knows which Mizuno Ma Long was wearing in Rio?

Yes I think you are right. Sportshops in my invironment don't sell tt shoes. There are shoes suitable for tabletennis that actually defeloped for other sports? Maybe volleyball and badminton?

They should be light, flexible, low sole with a good grip

I have 2 types of TT shoes. One for the hardwood and hard-rubber floors (those are regular TT shoes). And a separate pair for use on low pile carpeted floors (those are skateboarding shoes with flat soles). Yes, one venue (Charlottesville Va) is held in a martial arts studio that has carpeting. Regular TT shoes on carpeting will create problems for my ankles.

If you already have skateboarding shoes, you could try them.

Ma Long uses custom made Mizuno Wave Drive A with more ventilation on the toe and inner side. And sole like Wave Drive 6.
