The Heritage Oil Cup will be held at K2 Crawley again in July 2015.

The competition will be 16 Men and 16 Women consisting of the top 10 British players,5 overseas internationals and 1 qualifier from a qualification event for both Men and Women.

Prize money will be £2,000 1st, £1,000 2nd, £750 3rd, £500 4th, £250 quarter finalist, £250 consolation winner,£150 consolation runner up for both Men and Women.

The event will be a spectator event.

The organisers very much hope to move to the Copper Box Arena the following year, however this depends whether audience sizes can justify this . With the British players doing so well we have the opportunity to create an annual showcase event.

will this be live on national tv as well?

No unfortunately not. We are focusing initialling on building a large live audience, then move to a larger venue (such as the Copper Box) where the venue is already equipped for TV and the costs of production are at their lowest. Unfortunately this year the Copper Box was not available due to the floor being repaired over the summer . The K2 venue was available but would cost a large amount of money to facilitate TV coverage at the venue. If we can build the audience and move to the Copper Box Arena then TV is back on the agenda again.

the last one was on a tv studio right? (the one broadcasted a couple months ago)
what was it, itv? bbc? can't remember...

It was BT Sport. The broadcast is available for anyone to view by going to vimeo.com search Heritage Open BT Sport studio (the first two minutes of the video need to be fast forwarded as they were colour and tone tests)

do you have to pay in order to have btsport broadcast the event?
must be pretty expensive...

The staff wages for camera operators, sound, lighting etc has to be paid for. Generally it's paid for by the sponsors, however sponsors want to see viewer numbers to justify the investment. Here lies the problem - The table tennis community need to support the sport in terms of spectators and viewer numbers to justify appearing on TV and therefore promoting the sport. Currently viewer numbers in Asia and especially China are very high but obviously their interest is in Asian players.

If we can increase the live audience numbers we have a chance of success.
