Does anybody know from which match this is? Would love to see the whole scene or actually even the full match.

Hi,I am from Canada and the particular province that I live in (New Brunswick) is the only province that does not have a Table Tennis Association. In fact, we don't have any clubs either. So those interested in playing table tennis have to find others who like to play and arrange games to be played in our homes. I also have a robot that I practice with three or four times a week. I have finally found a couple of practice partners within a 45 minute drive that like to practice and play competitively. The closest tournaments that I am eligible to play in take place in Nova Scotia with some of the tournaments being up to a five hour drive away.Thanks for reading

That's unlucky, its good that you have managed to find some people to practice with though!

Logistically, I'm very lucky, on Guernsey nothing is further than 15-20 minutes away, and the table tennis centre is a 7 minute drive :)

My only issue is that to gain UK ranking points I have to fly off the island to compete in tournaments in England, Scotland, Wales etc..

Hi Archo,

The best way to practice resetting footwork between strokes is to try to get back to your "ready-position" (the place you would be when receiving a serve, slightly to the left of the centre line) between every shot.

Archo,

To add on to Yecats' advice... you resonated in the past with my comments of shuffling footwork to martial arts/boxing.

Same with reset to ready position... boxing is a great example of this. Boxers learn/train to jab and get back to ready stance; 1-2 back to ready; 1-2-1 or 1-1-2-1, etc ... after each series, back to ready position.

Maybe the image of a boxer getting back to ready stance will help you in your TT.

HTH.

Welcome to the TTD and the DTT CC thread!

Work with what you have for now, until a better training opportunity presents itself.

Good luck in your TT journey!

Hi Archo,

The best way to practice resetting footwork between strokes is to try to get back to your "ready-position" (the place you would be when receiving a serve, slightly to the left of the centre line) between every shot. This will feel extremely difficult to begin with, but once you get used to that side-to-side movement, you can adjust it accordingly to match the practice you are doing. So if you are doing, as you said in your original post, forehand loop to forehand loop, you don't have to move all the way to your ready position between shots, but you should still move in that direction. Finding a position to "reset" to between shots helps to develop rhythm and consistency. After all, it is much easier to side-step right than left to get to a forehand, as you can stretch to it if needs be, (not recommended though!) and throw your weight into it. Whereas you are off balance if you have to shuffle left to a ball. This is partly why the service receive ready position is more towards the backhand (left) side.

Hope this makes sense/helps a bit :)
It does make sense. I think I've caught onto something. I don't want to talk too much: the video will show if anything has really changed.

All I know for certain is that I don't strain on my shots as much as a month or so ago.

@OSPH

Something like that makes sense. I will just have to figure out for myself how it's really done.

@Der_Echte,

Where you at? Still sleeping in what Alaska?

Or probably...

No doubt, training new Goon Squad member ttmonster in the ways of the spyphone and the Korean Way to TT! If you told me you'd had to kill me!

Hope you are safe and sound and acclimated to CA!

Hi, I have only had the opportunity to play in two tournamentsin Nova Scotia. I often have difficultybeing sharp in my first couple of matches. How to you prepare for your matches on game day?

Preparation varies from tournament to tournament / Match to Match, i.e a tournament that involves many matches would involve more stretching/physical warm up than an evening tournament or league match.

However, usually I would arrive at the TT centre 30 mins to 1 hour prior to the start of the tournament and practice.

The warm up would involve standard FH to FH, BH to BH, and then down-the-line on both sides. We would then do some loop-to-loop practice, and some serve-receive/third ball practice. We would usually stop at least 10 mins before the matches are due to start.

For a longer tournament with many matches, I might be tempted to re-glue my rubbers to make them feel a bit fresher.

Before going on to a big match, I might listen to some epic music to get me pumped, but only for big matches!

Anyway, warm-ups are personal to everyone. Do whatever feels right for you and gets you in the best shape for the match.

Just remember to go in with confidence, every match you play :)

I don't do enough multiball, and I've never done multiball with a really good feeder

Wait....does this mean you have done multiball? You said this as though you actually have. What happened to how resistant you were to the idea of carrying around more than 3 balls for self hit practice? Are you now carrying around a bucket of 144 balls? [emoji2]

Oh, well, perhaps I should just mind my own business. Nevermind.

And the truth is, I remember feeding buckets of balls to a friend and having him feed me buckets back when I was truly terrible. So it is totally possible. But you need a decent quantity of balls. And they will go all over the place.

Do you know Archos coached Olah? I know it was a dream and I know we aren't supposed to point these things out but...

I meant to post this here for Archo and the reset issue. But I originally posted it back in the Exercise thread where Suga D's video came from.

Since you seemed to like the vids, I´ve found two more from the German women´s team.

Wan Guohui almost has the same ballfeeding-speed like the famous ZJK Coach...

The second one is from 2013 but.....
Apolonia´s wife looks pretty stunning in her fancy workout dress.

In this post by Suga D from the Exercises for TT thread, the first video is multiball. At about 35 seconds they start showing a random drill where the woman has to be set for the ball to go in either direction. You can see what the reset looks like in that video. As the drill gets faster the reset is faster but more pronounced.

I think that is something like what yecats is talking about Archo. That is the reset. So it is with the whole body, feet, hips, and both arms.

The way I was taught it, the reset is part of the stroke. In some sense the stroke is not done until you are set for the next ball. Which, ideally should happen as your shot lands on the other side of the table. That is so you are set and can watch the ball as it is hit to be ready to move to the opponents next shot.

@UpSideDownCarl

I used to have a total of 20 - 25 balls at my disposal, and I just shoved them in a spare racket case and used it as the "bucket".

The reason I was reluctant to do it was because my partners didn't like doing multiball and would rather play games, and it took a good few minutes to find all the goddamn balls to pick up once they went wherever. No barriers, and two floors where they can end up. A lot of time wasted, but it was good practice. My partners' inconsistent feeding just pronounced the issues with my technique. :rolleyes:

I'll take a closer look at the video, thanks.
