What should I do?

Hello guys was just wondering if you can help me. As i have been told butterfly are discontinuing the Boll Spirit. I have been reccomended by some people including Teessport customer service to go with the Boll ALC as it is the closest to the Boll Spirit. Im in a debate on whether to do that or try and find another Boll Spirit (preferably the older ones with the white arylate circle) before they sell out (some sites still sell them). Also I will be trying a ST handle in either of them.

THanks for any replies in advance ;)

First of all, ALC being closest to TBS is true. If the weight is identical, they should feel quite similar.

But TBS has been a popular blade for so many years now, if you´ll ever need to replace yours you should be able to find one. So no need to worry just now?

This is TBS with the new logo, I found this picture in the official Butterfly OFFICIAL Website so...

I know that the old model ( with the 'arylate circle' ) are discontinued but there is the new version with a blue/green circle, maybe you have to try this blade, it looks great...

Thanks mate but dont feel like it will be the same as the older versions.

I have to be honest, sometimes, the newer ones are better. Same for Viscaria.

There was a period 4-5 years ago where some of the ones they were making at that time were not so good. And then Butterfly started making better ones again. In other words, they fixed the problem.

Don't believe the hype. EJs try and make it seem like older versions are always better. It is not always true. In every generation of these blades, there are ones that are good and ones that are not quite as good. Butterfly would quickly lose their reputation if they started producing lower quality products and kept doing that.

I have both a TBS and a TB ALC. They are the same size and weight, within a gram or two, as indicated above. I can't tell the difference between them. When I bought my TBS it cost $90 and T05 cost $55 so it is about 9 years old. My ALC is about 3 years old. I bought in because my coach said it was a little faster and that is what he had. I don't think one is noticeably faster than the other. I wanted to have two blades that are the same size so I could swap rubbers between them.

If you can't find a TBS and TB ALC will do nicely and you will never know the difference except for the $15 less in your pocket.

THanks for reply Carl. it baffles me why they are discontinuing such a popular product. sorry for asking agin as well but do you think i should get another Spirit or go with the ALc thanks again

If they are discontinuing the product, what are the blades Honxiang Lin supplied a photo of. If that is a TB Spirit, it would be fine to get that. I also agree with brokenball that it would be fine to get a TB ALC. And I even think it would be fine to get a Viscaria. Viscaria's handle is more similar to TB Spirit handle. And the blades are very similar as well.

But, if you want a straight handle and they are not making TB Spirit with straight handle anymore, then TB ALC seems like a good choice.

Either will be good. Butterfly's equipment has really good quality control. The reason they have such a good reputation is because they have very few lapses in quality control.

Also sorry for keep commenting, as the Boll ALC is quicker than the spirit i was thinking on my BH whether to get T05fx but in a 1.9 instead of a 2.1 for more control or even a T05 with a 1.9 or just stick with a 2.1 what do you guys think.

Thanks again

Just get 2.1. You will be fine. They are VERY VERY similar. Some Spirits are faster than some ALCs. It really depends on the blade you get.
