Does anyone remember how the Banda rubbers were packaged in the early 90ies?

The reason for my question is that a team mate wanted me to put together a racket for her son using some old rubbers she had found in her basement (she’d won them as a price in competitions like the top12 in Sweden during the 90ies). The package was vacuum sealed and just had “Waldi 2,05” written on it. I told her to sell it on eBay rather than breaking the package.

Hi guys

on Tuesdays when i go to the club, near our table there are always some (<) junior players training with their coach. I often hit the ball with some of those kids.

Among them, there is a kid which is still in primary school and always big smiles at me. Maybe because i'm a foreigner ? or his hero, all the more he saw me and supported me when i won the 40s tournament last month ? He is amazed right now but probably i'll be the one really amazed when in 2 years time he turns into a mini-Harimoto !!! I haven't played him yet, I should hurry while I can still beat him ! Anyway, he's so cute ! LOL

spent two hours with the coach.

First hour was multiball. I was lacking stamina and got tired quickly. I needed a long time
between each series, typically 30 balls with some pattern (sometimes with randomness)

Coach says it’s better to make less series but recover enough to be in good focus and condition for each.

Still I believe it’s in bad or difficult days that the work done matters most for the body...

I missed a lot of ball during my those drills but I think it’s more a problem of stamina than technique.

Second hour set plays. I filmed myself doing some FH flicks. It’s not reliable yet it’s not powerful but probably it’s the first time I got on cam flicks which look a bit like the real thing ( with no speed or power yet) ! It gives me some hope for my journey to be a better player

Lifetime achievement: I beat a player who's got 1500 ranking points in Sweden (probably 2000+ in the US) using long pips today during the club's "top table". I normally get 4-5 points per set using inverted. I probably shouldn't EJ with pips but it was fun. The Yinhe 980XX is an extremely easy blade to play with.

Do some proper cardio (running/cycling/swimming/whatever) if you're not already doing this and it will get a whole lot easier. I notice a big difference during multi ball when I skip cardio for a few weeks.

I try to run once a week. I did go this week and last week. It does make a difference indeed

I just think I was not in very good shape and tried too hard the first series so I got too quickly in the red

Well Done! Harder to use long pips sucessfully today without frictionless pips(glasnabb in swedish) and with the new ball. So i Do not recommend becoming a defender, But if you players good the first time you used it, then it migth be something for you!

Thanks! I'll probably stick wth inverted but I can really see why people who have a hard time returning tricky serves (like yours truly) would be looking at long pips.

Today I had a mystical experience. A Shinigami took over my mind and body

I was playing with my buddy Eric who is a stronger player than me and whom I could not win for two months - except when we met in a tournament !!

Anyway I was playing extraordinarily well and playing winners after winners. Even fast difficult to reach balls I counterlooped them with the help of the net if necessary...
Won3-0 9 9 6 he told me I couldn’t sustain such a high level of play so asked for a revenge match

Which I won 5 6 3. I tried some ridiculous shots they all went in. Persson or ito like backhand smashes , round the net loops, Harimoto like fast BH counter, smashes, 3rd ball kills or long rallies I won it all

It never happened before to me to such an extent. Like being in a dream. During the match I would be laughing at how well I was playing one point and then make an even more fabulous point next !!!

The euphoria didn’t last and it went back to normal business after that but boy it was fun while it lasted

----

maybe linked to the above, yesterday i had some real hard training. This is a video of me doing multiball. This is after 30mns of intense training already including 2 or 3 multiball sets. I'm totally in the red, i was about to quit in the middle but the coach told me to calm down a bit and take more time between each set.

CONGRATULATIONS Sir!
Professional athletes call it "being in the Zone", at least that's what it sounds like for me. Baseball players when hitting well will say they see the baseball and it looks like size if a softball or basketball. They can't miss and have aulti-game hitting streak.

Sounds like you were in the Zone sir! Good luck in getting back in playing in the Zone!!

I played last night and for the first time in almost a year of playing 99.99% RPB, I was able to 3rd ball RPB punch down the line for winners after a rocket serve to partner's backhand. Will see if I still have it on Monday since I lose my strokes/timing/touch after a few days off lol

Thank you for sharing Sir! I got tired watching you :)

Very inspirational for me to watch. I haven't had a chance to do multiball training in the 3 or 4 years since i started playing again after the 32 yrs break. Only had 1 time with friend/member 42andbackpains. Looking to make time and get together with again and we feed each other multiball.

Thank you again for sharing!

I would be very happy if you try as well ! I wanted to show anyone can do it, and it can be fun, even if exhausting. When i'm done i just go to the local hot baths and dip myself in hot jet water and then cool down in the cold bath. And for sure i have a strong urge to sleep that night.

Its hard, it may not be recommended if you start to have some health issues (heart etc....), but if you can do it, then you definitely should, personally i think 1 hour of such training is worth 3 or 4 hours at the club. Just find the pace and amount of work that you can handle each time, and slowly increase as you get used to it.

I FINALLY fixed my robot and rigged up a table in my basement. The wheels of my ipong pro were too far apart and gave very inconsistent speed and spin on the ball, making practice useless at best. I bent the bracket holding the wheels to make them closer together and everything works as it should. The table is laughable but serviceable, a pool table conversion top resting on a 6' folding table and supported at each end with a tissue box on top of a bar stool. I'll be searching classifieds to get an actual table, so this is a temporary setup.

I worked on low tempo forehands and backhands vs top and under. I'm finding I keep my blade face too open vs top and too closed vs under (forehand) and that I don't follow through forward enough on either. So that's my project for the next few weeks as I practice at home instead of the club. Backhand I just don't have a good swing plane in general vs underspin and find myself forcing the stroke. Topspin feels decently comfortable some I can use the incoming ball's power. Plan is to work off table on more relaxed mechanics and better swing plane for BH vs underspin.

I think I have a way to mount my phone on the table for video so will try to post. Still glad to see everyone progressing and playing despite the busy season. Also, Takkyu is an animal. Awesome work!

I think We are pretty good at technique here so i think We can help you if you post videos!

I think you can think something like this, it is very simplified But a good start i think.

Against topspin: close the angle, have the racket high and swing forward.

Against backspin: open angle, have the racket Low and swing more upward.

Faster swing with wrist and forearm give more spin. More important to swing fast and explosive against backspin. Power comes from the body.

Try throwing a frisbee when you Do your backhand, with more wrist cliser to the table since you have No time and more forearm further away since you have more time.

If you have an old tripod, there are good mount thing for the phone for those.

Anyone know how to embed video?

BH vs Top video below. Notes: I look super awkward... My elbow drifts out to my left too much. I follow through too high and too far to my left. My motion is too big for being at the table. My low back slips into hyperextension a lot thanks to powerlifting. I do hit a few that feel good and seem to have decent quality, but nowhere near reliably.
