All japanese men are in a terrible shape since weeks or months. All three faced non chinese players - a big opportunity - but all three lost! Niwa is losing basically every match, Mizutani is in a decline and even Harimoto plays way below his usual level. What the hell they are doing? Do they need a new coach or a new coaching team? Something is really going into a wrong direction for them.

Am I the only one who finds that guy annoying whenever he is a commentator, even for European League matches? Given all the money they are pouring into T2, why would they waste money on that annoying guy? Seriously. Get someone who actually understands the game even if they are just a fan, not a pro commentator who isn't bothered to understand it even after commentating for a few years.

This event is not a big deal and this is not a team event. Their priority is Tokyo not T2.

Mizutani and Niwa are around top 16 level. And nothing much is expected from them anyway since this is R16.

John Burgess used to live in Singapore and so he's familiar with South East Asia and since ITTF's HQ is now in Singapore...

Who knows. They could be lying low.

Harimoto will no doubt be the 1st singles, unless he dies in an accident or becomes gravely ill, the latter of which happened to Rikako Ikee.

Mizutani has said he has only a 50% chance making the singles. Niwa also knows the risk of dropping out if he doesn't make the singles. For the 3rd spot, it depends how "adventurous" the JNT feels, as in how much they want the gold medal. The circumstances are much more dire compared to Rio. As it stands, I'd say they don't even have a realistic shot at podium. Harimoto is too volatile, with a high standard deviation. Niwa is either free-flowing or free-falling. Mizutani is surprisingly consistent given his eye condition, but like he said after the All-Japan Championships, his stamina can't really keep up anymore.

Because of the XD, Yoshimura does have a realistic chance, especially if Ishikawa makes the team.

Because they lost so much recently, not long ago they were Top 10. Same goes to Matsudaira who completely disappeared. Mizutani lost to players like Karlsson and Groth recently and Niwa just won 1 games within the last 5-6 tournaments.

Franziska wins agains Jingkun, great. The last tournament wasn't a fluke, he is really good. Clearly better than Ovtcharov nowadays.

Franziska was more gutsy and decisive during the fast5, exactly what the game called for. Onwards... to Kasumi beating ZYL?

Zhu Yuling vs Ishikawa.

I am really not sure who will win. Ishikawa has a chance to win against Zhu. Zhu has an outdated style and it seems that she is not pumped and motivated.
I don't see her style as outdated, Whenever a player is in a rut we tend to find faults in technique or style or mental strength but this things happen, This same style too her to the final in WTTC 2017, Won her her world cup, Asian Cups and her titles on the world tour in 2017 and 2018, that she's not playing well enough this year doesn't outright mean that her style is outdated

He certainly loves the game, no doubt about that..
But his commentating is annoying not just for you ;)
