Do table tennis rubbers become softer after use?

Hi,

I am using andro rasanter R53 on both sides. During the first week the rubber felt very weird and hard on backhand. But after around a week now of playing the rubber seems to have become little softer, has more feeling and a pleasure to play with it. Is that true? Do even esn rubbers become softer and break in after using for like a week or two? Please let me know.

It is possible that you got used to the rubbers. Our nervous systems are interesting. When you are not used to something it feels one way. When we get used to it, it feels a different way.

If someone is used to using a very fast blade like a Primorac Carbon, and then they try an Off- blade like a Korbel, it will feel slow slow slow like a turtle. If that same person then uses the Korbel for 6 months and really gets used to it, not trying anything else over that time period, the Korbel will start feeling the normal speed. If the person then tries the Primorac Carbon, it will feel fast fast fast and too fast.

So, some of it may be that you got used to the rubber.

Thanks. Yeah that might be true too. So happy that i finally found a setup that i am very confident and comfortable with on both sides.

Not only are you use to the rubber, but also I think that all table tennis rubbers become a little bit softer after use. Its just like breaking in a new shoe or something, in the begining, everything is factory sealed, but its only when the rubber is used a little does its true performance shine. So I think that rubbers do become a little softer but also become better performance wise.
