I think Ni is one of the oldest one can find in recent years.

and guess what, 15 or 60 years old, any one of them can be the winner

that's table tennis for you
I personally love it. A game you can play while you're in your athletic prime and still lose to a middle-schooler and a grandma in the same day lol

She really does.

The whole team kinda looks cold and miserable out there for some reason. They look like a group of girls who got locked in a freezer and are waiting for help to come.

Hirano seems to have a runny nose or something. And some odd bit of action with her swatting invisible flies between points.

The most bizarre thing is the camera work, where they're showing the Japan women every second in between the TT action. I guess they know what we all want, but that was the most one sided coverage I've ever seen. It got so crazy that at one point they did a shot where you saw both Miu from one camera and her teammates from another camera and they overlaid to the two shots together. Hilarious.
Table 2 has been bought out by TV Tokyo since WTTC 2014 so that's understandable. The youtube live is from the same feed that gets broadcast in Japan.

TV Tokyo always tries something new (weird at times) with every edition.

This explains a lot. Those shots were exactly what I was talking about.

Reminded me of those photos we had to take in grade school where there's one version of us looking at the camera and the other overlay looking off into the distance.

same thing when Chuang benched himself after Lin's withdrawal in 2022 Chengdu

With no more individual ranking points, there is just not enough attraction to fight for wins in team's performance.
As fighting for wins could result to injuries, and at the end of the day, its a gamble of risks and just not risk taking, as there is so little financial income, zero ranking points, and the only thing is "national pride", but pride doesn't cover your bills

Are there still no points for WTTC?

Oh come on... the only reason why/how she's playing is because of her equipment. She doesn't take more than 3 steps during the point. Ok, I'm exaggerating maybe 5 steps.

The equipment is necessary for success at her age, yes. But the equipment isn't sufficient to achieve it. You also have to be very good at using it, which she's clearly is. I think a lot of people confuse necessary with sufficient.

There are points for WTTC 2024. Distributed in the same way as XTWC 2023.

https://www.ittf.com/2024/02/01/itt...an-2024-winners-to-share-1000-ranking-points/
The winning team will secure a total of 1,000 World Ranking points, while the second-ranked team will earn 700 points. Teams reaching semifinals will receive 350 points, then 175 points for quarterfinals, 90 for Round of 16. Teams ranked fourth and fifth of their group will get 45 and 20 points respectively. These points will then be shared among team members, considering their individual contributions, such as the share of singles matches won throughout the entire event.

1000 sounds nice
4th place/ 45 points or 5th place/20 points over 3 to 5 players 🤣

When I saw the men's team went in full force, I guess that was maybe related to the Indian match.

with UZB, I think they are a much lower threat, so it could be resting players, and not necessary punishing players.

never the less, back then, CNT would win a WTTTC without even dropping 1 game, yet alone 3 games/1 match.
do you have stats on CNT 3-0 record per WTTTC?

Unfair? If you can't deal with your own spin, that's on you. I am saying that as a double inverted player.
If play against LP is just "deal with your own spin" then I have the spinniest soft block in the world

You can't say that playing against LP is just deal with your spin, because everything changes, tactics, speed, bouncy and ball timing and some players manage to create some spin even with LP.
I currently play well against LP but because I spent a lot of time playing against LP players and I believe this is the only way
