I'm still scratching my head as to why Tanaka still has no affiliation.

Poor Hashimoto. She's a top 30 level player but gets stuck with an R32 matchup with Miwa.

Edit: Apparently Honoka's birthday is July 5. She turns 26:

@FIXPOINT how do you make those nice charts
Thank you for your compliments. As zeio correctly guessed, the program for creating the diagrams is written in Excel and VBA (Visual Basic). The idea to include detailed scores in these diagrams came from pongfugrasshopper. The program to draw the diagrams is almost complete once the match draws and results are given. However, the part that automatically retrieves data from the WTT site and uploads it to the desired website is still incomplete.

Congrats to Hashimoto on her birthday and her win against Harimoto! I don't like playing against choppers, but I enjoy watching them at the pro level, especially Hashimoto, Sato, and Ojio. Wish they played more often at WTT tournaments, which would make them more interesting. Too bad Hashimoto and Sato might face off in the round of last 16.

Looking forward to Uda vs Matsushima. Uda won in 3 tight sets against Aruna and Matsushima sneaked past a young Indian player in 5.

OMG, congratulations Honoka! Best defender in the world! I support both Miwa and Honoka, but I have to admit I wanted Honoka to win this a little bit more as it's her birthday and she is sooooo much better than her ranking suggests whereas Super Miwa is already ranked high. Had to watch it on replay because of timezone, but I was worried when Honoka was up 8-7 in the 5th and the game went into expedite. Honoka has had trouble playing expedite but she held on. The way she just glides around the court, her seamless transition between defense and offense and back to defense, and her ability to take many of her opponents hardest shots is amazing. It's a real treat to watch her. It would be awesome if she won this tournament!

And Jang Woojin is out. Lin and Shin also out in XD but the problem is Lin and Chen can challenge Harimoto Hayata.
This is a huge development. Tomo/Hayata's current low is 280 and the current gap between them and S. Korea is 210. So they need to make up 490 pts which means if they win this tournament, they will surpass S. Korea and grab the 2nd seed at the Olympics.

Huge opportunity for them and they seem very aware of it. They seem both very anxious and pumped at the same time. Their chos are extra loud today, especially since they are seriously getting tested by the Taiwanese pair. Good match!

+1

I also hope that Hashimoto will win the tournament (or Sato). But she lost 0:3 to Sato during the selection trial recently. Tough match for both if Sato advances to R16.

What a match! Down 7-10 in the 4th, they did not want to go to a 5th. Tomo falls on his back after they won. One match at a time, one game at a time, one point at a time .... Tomo/Hayata vs. Doo/Wong tomorrow for all the marbles.

I haven't seen the whole match, but Lim Jonghoon barely escaped a defeat by Thakkar. Thakkar had big leads, but choked. I don't think he could believe it himself.

Suh Hyo Won against Han Ying now on table 3. Really a shame that choppers have to face each other quite so early.

They were down 8-10 in the 3rd too but able to bring that back as well. Good to see that they're able to switch to a higher gear and make some very clutch shots when it really counts.

Were you able to check out that Sun Yang match earlier today? That one was definitely worth a watch.

Well, Han Ying might be out. Her achilles tendon acted up mid-rally. She just recovered from her achilles injury at the start of the year.

EDIT: Han Ying has been transported out on a chair.

EDIT 2: Yoshimura Maharu also just forfeited. Hip or waist pain I think.

Hashimoto is already 26? A shame we are only seeing her now frequently on WTT.
They used to be more frequent on ITTF. The problem is that Japan is so deep and if you are outside the first team, you need special funding. Maybe their club found it or something.

Hashimoto got rather lucky playing a teammate in the r32 I guess 🫣
No way. Maybe got lucky playing Harimoto amongst her first team teammates, but other than her teammates on the first team, it is hard to think of anyone who can beat her.
