3rd singles is actually more important than 2nd singles despite being only 1 match since it's static for both ABC/XYZ teams. When the match score is 1-1, the 3rd match becomes the pivot point that tips the scale. That's another reason you want to be the ABC team. Watanabe explained that's the role Hirano played at WTTC 2024, in case Miwa crashed in her match.
well, on a different day, ABC magic didn't work for HKG men, KOR womens twice, JPN mens.
the better team who had players to take 3 points won.

M1, M2, M3, is all the same.
so it is only the reverse that is different and the better player on the day will win.

Firstly, you need 2 players min to take points, else you can't get to 3 points.
ideally, all 3 players can take 1 point each
and your best player needs to aim to take 2 points
irrespective of sequence, unless it is the olympic games, where you might even get to player your best singles player for the 2nd singles at match 5. that is a true disadvantage

I don't see in his serve something worst then other players. All other players have perfect serves according to rules?
of the WR no1 from CNT since rule change, who do you rate as same bad illegal serve as WCQ?

who else relies so much on the illegal serve at very crucial moments?

Match 3 does tend to tip the balance, since it starts/prevents comebacks or brings momentum to teams tied 1-1. But of course there are no free giveaway matches at this level and every match is important. Most teams also play their 3rd best player in that slot by default since doing otherwise puts too much pressure on 1st and 2nd singles to win 3/3.

On another note, it's super weird how ATTC has a tradition of playoffs for EVERY position but 3rd/4th. Not to take away from India's historic victory, but IMO this cheapens the bronze medal since it's so draw dependent and if you're a seeded team you just need one victory to seal it. NK on the other hand impressively swept Thailand and SK and only have 5th place to show for it. India vs Hong Kong would have been great to watch, too.

I don't agree he has so bad illegal serve. Its not perfect but many other players also don't serve perfect. You hate him because he chinese and play for CNT?

Since you ask why, I answered what I think, since there is a huge anti wcq crowd from China and I doubt they hate him because he is chinese or play for the CNT (racial card alert)

You don't see Ma Long, ZJK, Ma Lin, WLQ, Wang Hao needing to "play dirty" to win.
So I think that is why people might not like him.

so why are you making this racial about me?
you are weird. can't you just talk table tennis without bringing out race?

But then, you said, other players, so which no 1 is as dirty too? or are you talking about not number 1s?

yeah, any of the 5 matches, will tip the balance. 3 is only there if it is at 1-1.
but how do you tip at Match 3? do you put your number 1 or 2 players there to guarantee a win at M3, or what if he/she fails and your best player can't play a second.
What if you go into M3 0-2 down, that doesn't tip the balance in your favor.

If you are a weaker team, you might want to put a stronger player at M3, to get atleast 1 point
and hopefully another point from somewhere and then maybe opponent might be under pressure.
This is something I have seen a few times, but most times, best 2 players will not play at M3, to allow for max of 4 matches.

I agree, but then again ATTC is its own breed
the whole format is unique and silly (only 2 teams goes into main draw)

What a cheap argument about nationality. It has nothing to do with the fact that he is from CNT.

WCQ's serve is really dirty, he often serves on top of the table, even his pendulum is hidden, especially against right-handed players (which are like 95% of opponents). Don't even wanna get into his shovel serve, it's always fully hidden and is beyond illegal.

Yes, maybe there are players whose serves are equally as dirty if not worse, but he is current Number#1 in the sport, of course he is watched all the time, and his flaws are more apparent to the public.

That's the reliability that senior players bring, but it only becomes obvious when a greener player who can't handle the pressure steps up. Everyone in the comments was saying that they felt assured with Ito on court too.

Against China, Ito needs to meet WYD, and Miwa can hopefully meet CXT. I'm guessing CNT will play SYS1 WYD2 CXT3. I'd prefer if Japan played Ito1 Hirano2 Miwa3 against such a lineup. But that means they are doomed if CNT decides to switch WYD and CXT. The problem is both Ito and Hirano are helpless against CXT, and Ito against SYS as well.

Japan vs "CHAINA"

Miwa 1
Ito 2
Hirano 3

SYS 1
WYD 2
CXT 3

CNT decided not to screw JNT over too hard.
I think this is Ito's first team match against China since WTTC 2022?

Sorry, last time was ATTC 2023 where she lost miserably against CXT. I'm just hoping she can take one game.

Tony always talking against chinese players and against CNT in all threads so there is something to do with nationality ...

well, i'm talking about the point
can't you handle the point?

Chinese people are leading the anti WCQ campaign, including the 32 is from them.

WCQ does have the worse hidden serve out of any chinese star for as long as I followed and admire some of the top CNT players, ie the best for me is Ma Lin's serves.
ps, stop trying to be like a zeio and just focus on the point

i have friends within CNT, just like WTT, and I like to talk what comes to my head, especially if it is unfair or silly, because I live in a free world.

How many people get gifts like this:
CNT towel.jpgCNT1.jpgcnt2.jpg

so, stop talking about me, and talk about WCQ and why so many chinese people dislike him? you a chinese, what is your view?
