The problem with the current lineup is Ito - this is a prime chance without Wang Manyu and Chen Meng to bother the CNT again, but it is obvious that Ito is going to cost them this match even if Hirano wins unless Harimoto can close out SYS which is asking a lot.
haha, your prediction as always

Also because China sent their D and E players. Regardless, Miwa and Hirano have already achieved breakthroughs though for winning their first team tie against CNT and first match against CXT respectively.

Miwa is playing amazing. For me she's already No.1 in Japan in terms of technique.
SYS is good enough to take 2 points, she failed
so the same as a HT's issue in JPN's mens.

SYS loss it for CNT
When your no1 players doesn't take 2 points (yet alone WR1) then you know you got a mountain to climb and not a ABC XYZ issue

I wonder who is calling for her retirement

The last time JPN defeated CHN to win was back at ATTC Yokohama in 1974, the 2nd edition. 50 years ago.
The last time CHN lost in the final (to HKG) was back at ATTC Jejudo in 2005, the 17th edition. 19 years ago.

It's about time Japan beat China once for a while. This is the right time as China didn't present its best lineup with WMY and CM missing. Also, after two back to back intense WTT champion and smash battles, all its core members are pretty fatigued.
Reporter: where were you?
Ma Lin: Only Wang Hao goes up to get silver medals

View attachment 32450
Ma Lin: second place? Nah, I don't want to have anything to do with it even I made all the coaching decision.
Coward Fucking Ma Lin. I respect him as a player but not as a coach who seems only shares the glory when winning not the responsibility when losing.

SYS is still the best, probably in a bit of a slump after Olympic silver. It's her teammates who didn't step up when needed. I'm still amazed by CNT's faith in WYD. Her team event record is worse than Liu Shiwen and Guo Yue.

I wonder why Ma Lin trusted so much on Wang Yidi even though she got beat by Japanese players many times recently. Why not sending Shi Yunyao who previously had a clean sweep of Miwa? In stead, Ma Lin called Chen Xingtong who made an emergency trip from China. Chen previously was left out of the team by Ma Lin's decision, then recalled to replace WMY. Obviously, Chen mentally and physically was not ready for the final. Why not try either SYY or QM?
Even if the young player loses, it's a valuable experience for them.

yeah, I'm sure JPN fans (if at the level of CNT fans), would start calling for SYS retirement for loosing so often nowadays.

any ways, lets turn the table and put CNT at ABC to see if the logic plans out.

M1 SYS beat Ito 3-0
M2 WYD loose 2-3 to Miwa
M3 same, CXT loose 1-3 to Harino
M4 same, SYS loose 2-3 to Miwa

To not give pressure for 2 for SYS, just like HT in Japan mens, you need 1 points from the other top 3 to get a M5.
But if going into M4 and you only have 1 point, SYS needed to take 2 points, no matter ABC or XYZ

CXT - clearly shows how lack of preparation affected her - she arrived very late (just like many players would be for WTT/WTTC).
Do you put a better player that should of performed on the day, but did not have the best preparation, or give one of the youngsters? (against HKG, the game wasn't convincing for CXT)
WYD.... agreed, at 27, she probably will not be trusted going forward
KM - no WT game time

I think SYY match against PRK was not convincing.
and CXT against HKG too

so they choose CXT over SYY for that matter

PRK crushed SK 3-0. So i suspect he should have been more convinced than he was.

SYS admitted the ball was different from the other tournaments and her condition was not tuned to the best.

WCQ admitted he didn't handle certain shots with care after the big lead in G4, and that his control of the table and the ball were not that good, that there were too many unforced errors and he failed to get in the groove the entire match.

Does anyone know if the girls get any ranking points for this win? None for Ma Lin for sure, fans are already calling for him to step down.

Singles is a different ball game, but hopefully the win gives them all the belief to go further.
Not likely the last time we were updated. Only XTWC and WTTTC for now.

The ITTF World Ranking Working Group will closely monitor the impact of this progressive shift and may recommend its extension to all team events, including the ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships Finals.

Odo is the luckiest. She becomes an 8-dan with this team title, without a single win.

10-dan
Ito, Tokyo 2020 (Also 8-dan, ATTC 2024)
9-dan
Ishikawa, WTTC 2017
8-dan
Hirano, ATTC 2017; ATTC 2024
Hayata, ATTC 2021; ATTC 2024
Harimoto, ATTC 2024
Odo, ATTC 2024
I dream of getting 1 -dan

Any updates on WMY?
Nothing for now. But according to Li Sun's wording, a family member could've passed away.

It’s a tough call, but WYD at 2 was correct given the circumstances.
Expected SYS to take 2, and 1 from the others.
I would have given SYY no 3, since CXT was a reserve

It is clear why CNT puts so much resources into preparations. But maybe that is a problem too?

I like Shasha, but what I am about to say may be harsh for her, but welcome to the real world like the rest of us.

Ie. many players get match balls to “get used to” on the eve of the tournament.
So, she can’t really blame the ball, but rather she needs to learn to adapt like the rest of the world.

And this is why a 1 Bundesliga player told me about the good of playing in leagues, every home match uses different tables and different balls, so you can only learn to adapt few hours before the start of the match.

CXT and Hirano were meant to play the same role. For CXT's case, she needed to shut down Ito/Hirano in the likely scenario that WYD lost. Hirano simply played her role better.
Yep
I didn’t expect Ito to take 1, so Hirano and Miwa had to take 3.

Close calls for Miwa twice, especially the blue screen situation. So, well done for her for pulling though. She can only get stronger from her.

Chinese fans on tiktok, of course, will never admit that
