Pitchford lost to Thibault Poret, anyone know much about this player? Don't recognise his name from WTT events. Must have been quite the upset?

Top French junior (now 20), played behind Felix on the junior team for a while. France has a very deep pipeline of juniors. Poret has been playing mostly feeders but if you look deep enough you see him in a few Contenders (I think he made it to Lagos or Tunisia or both?) I suspect Gauzy will be lucky to be on the team in 2028 (in other words, I don't think he will be in the top 3).

Flavien Coton is only 16 but it is a matter of time before he starts joining them too if he continues to progress.

OTOH, Pavade tried too hard. Immature as well.
Watching the highlights, it was like can't you see that all she is doing is borrowing your power and you have to be a bit more strategic with your first placement to make her move?

Wan Yuan , Mittelham, Sabine in quarters. Can't say I expected Wan to be there. Kaufmann has been unimpressive ever since the Olympics but she did have a tough draw against Bernie.

Szocs may not win the championships that easily if she meets Yuan and Polcanova who have both beaten her this year, particularly Sofia who handed her a bagel and denied her a rematch against Chen Meng at the Olympics.

Update: No WS medal for forehand pips players :(
Second medal for Maria Xiao. Been impressed with her since XD Olympics. Maybe she can surprise Bernie.

Thibault Poret has wtt wins over Lind, Kamal Achanta, Gil Minsoek, Lee Seungsoo,
overall ittf stat doesn't look impressive, but 2024 is his first year in senior wtt, player 42, win and loss 21 each

Congratulations to Maria Xiao for guaranteeing herself a medal. She beat a very tough Yuan Jia Nan 4-3, 11-3. YJN was pretty much unstoppable once she gets a barrage of forehand smashes in. And her serve control is exceptional. But Maria was able to get her heavy spin game in forcing errors from YJN. XD gold for Maria and now at least a bronze in singles.

Szocs capitalized on Lutz' inexperience in G5. Lutz had the upper hand in everything but patience.

Judging from her QF against Winter, Polcanova looks poised to defend her singles title here.
