i was in a "pair tournament" yday.
Format was teams of 2 (men) in 4 team league and KO tournament later with 4 draws (for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th)
team match is doubles + singles + singles
We finally finished in the final of KO for 2nd. Im quite happy with my overall performance
Against the team which finished 1st of our group, i played only the doubles and I'm not very happy about this match. but we won the 2 other doubles including 3-0 against a very decent team. (if we didn't close 3-0 i think we'd get in trouble)
in morning singles, i played a young guy who was quite good. good serves, very powerful drive, and agressive BH taking the ball early and countering aiming for all the table. it looked like a disaster losing 5-11 5-11 G1 and G2, but i still believed in myself because there was some good stuff, and i felt i was a bit unlucky and i needed only to focus a bit more and be a little bit more agressive to win, and i also felt i could do well in receiving with my BH. I didn't want to give up as well because the guy was tchooing hard and i wanted to be given the opportunity to tchooo louder than him.
I managed to win G3 11-7. G4 i was up 10-8 but he came back and got 2 match points on HIS serive, but i saved it to win it 13-12 (golden point rule). I really thought i would win it, and in the interval between G5 he really seemed lost and took time to discuss with his teammate. Alas for me it seemed to have broken my momentum, didn't get a good start in G5, and was a bit unlucky early as well. some poor decision making too (made at a critical moment the same serve which he had received perfectly twice earlier in the match). I guess under pressure the better player prevailed 6-11.
a lot of great topspin rallies, i played some really good BH winners down the line. blocking game was consistent. Not there yet but im getting closer to these guys !
in the afternoon, we faced a weak team, won easily both doubles and singles, next match team forfeited, one guy gone home, i played only singles and won. in final, we had some chance to win the doubles grabbing on the edge G1, but my partner had troubles in G2 and G4 against leftie serve. G3 we got to 9-9 but my partner missed his 2 receives under pressure. we were also a bit unlucky in G3. thats life.
i faced the leftie in singles, he had SP on his BH which produced some very odd balls sometimes (but not too often). Very strong serves. in G1 i was lost. but G2 i adjusted a bit and on my serve game i tried not to do obvious serves but watch more his waiting stance. managed to get to 8. But in G3 he increased his level and got only to 5. i had too many problems with his hook serve to my FH. i could open it on the table with decent spin but the ball was not deep enough and he made perfect counter topspin immediately down the line 3 times. Why did i open 3 times to his FH ??? damn !!!!
tough score 0-3.
it was a good experience today. I can see where i need to work more:
- getting back in position after serve more quickly.
- Be more aware of opponent when serving
- receive half-long and long serves to my FH, specifically that leftie hook serve.
Lastly, we won a pack of nittaku 3star balls each.

so it was a good day
