Nittaku premium and DHS DJ 40+, very similar…
DHS DJ40+ is certainly a world's recognized STANDARD BALL.
ITTF adopted this ball as the only test specie for laboratory testing works.
DHS DJ 40+ (Tokyo) are the best balls.
DHS DJ40+ WTT is good.
My favorite at the DHS DJ40+ WTT balls.
The DHS DJ40+ is getting a lot of love in this thread.
I still have a few boxes of the D40 (no J) and I find they're great for the price.

Im keen to try the DJ next.
Is it really worth the extra money over the regular?
They're actually twice the price where I buy them!
Or are you guys finding a better deal on them?

THE BEST AGREEABLE CHOICE. .

Anyway, you can never impose a particular ball on every playmate of yours; an unanimous agreement between players is always needed. The DHS 40+, DHS 40+ DJ would be the best compromise choice, under several good considerations.

I’ve never used the D but I have heard the DJ are far superior.

I buy them on AliExpress for about $1 a ball. The box of 6 is about $6 and some change. Free shipping.

I find there's only minor differences between them, and I actually prefer the D40+ over the DJ40+. The DJ feels a little harder/heavier but is not quite as spinny as the D40+.
We use both at our club, I don't need to adjust much (any?) between them. If you're happy with the D40+ and they're half the price, I'd stick with them.

@haggisv How is the durability? Do they crack a lot?

Most higher level clubs in CR use Joola Prime, most lower level clubs in CR use Joola Flash, put simply. There is a big difference. The issue with Prime is that they are not round and you need to hand-pick. Some clubs do use DHS D40 and I liked those balls actually, they felt closer to Prime than to Flash. However, some people told me that DHS balls crack a lot, I heard that at least 3x. I'm just not sure if it was D40, but what else could those be? That's why I'm asking... I'm interested because I'd like to use them next season, well there is a back-push from other team members who do like Flash ;-)

The earlier versions of the DHS balls were terrible, they cracked virtually every game, that's probably where those comment orginate. These current (last 5 years or so) D40+ are extremely durable, I rarely ever break one from playing. They become smoother over time, but all balls do this, but they just don't seem to break.

Yo
I know you were asking HaggisV but the D40 have not cracked easily in my experience. I currently have 5 of them in my bag that are old, with the logo almost worn off and still using for training. There's been the odd one that's cracked early but overall I'm getting great durability from them over the past yr.

Haggis says the DJ are like the D40 but a little harder/heavier so that puts them beside the Nittaku Premium, as also said by Lazer above.
Funny, warming up with DHS D40 for a lge match a few wks back the opponent examined the ball and asked if we had any Nittaku. I had 2 in my bag so I asked him why and he said he preferred the harder and heavier ball. I obliged him as it made no difference to me but interesting that many opinions co-incide.

I'll stick with the D40 at €0.67c each for 10. I got my maths wrong above, the DJ are €2.40 each at €14.50 for 6 so almost 4 times the price.
Although Jslicks nod to Ali at $1 a ball seems be worth a pop I still have 20 D40s still to use so it could be a while 😁

I actually have the D40 in the robot (which I don't use very often anymore), and I too didn't have problems with durability. As @haggisv says, they do get "polished", hard to say if more than others... But I wanted to get the feedback about the durability, as you can understand, I need to be sure... So thank you both...
