WCQ advantage is gone when he can be called for his illegal serves.
i think he relied way too much from it.
I personally feel WCQ technique is complete and he doesn't need any dodgy serves.
but it has been a habit when he needs easy points, he would start hooking.

I guess if TTR was to stay, WCQ needs to face more rallies, than 3rd ball finishes.

Hugo was just power.
he had a nights rest, so final next day isn't a bad thing.
WCQ's legs were not built for rallies, but for model show.

Hugo's absolute monster of a performance aside, the chinese fan attitude this match is obnoxious. Not even cheering Lin properly (the best he got was a 'Chinese team come on'), even during ceremony they only cheer for WCQ. From what I read on his fandom, it seems that they want Lin to lose just so their idol won't get rough treatment for losing to Hugo lmao.

But i hope this toxic fan behaviour to go on and crack the CNT from the inside so foreigners may have more chance

As far as I know, Chinese fans went against him because of his attitude in the semis. But I'm not sure. Maybe Zeio knows.

LSD fan base is still small

and yeah, i'm not surprised to hear that WCQ fans would want LSD to loose against Hugo

this is a huge loss for CNT A team in China.
no wonder the coaches are all stressed out.

mean while, chinese fans were laughing at harimoto when he loss 1-4 to Hugo
they seem to very quiet this evening with the same score to LSD.

just reposting:

is WH about to hit someone?
I was a huge WH fan when I was a player, but the coaching burden for Mens A team is very very heavy.

The coaching staff be like: “We made a big mistake pushing ML and FZD out and even when they were young and up and coming, we helped them win against foreigners. Now, we’re helpless.”

They will blame the seamless ball and make sure it isn't used at the next big event until they figure it out lol.
They'd be right. Seamless just doesn't spin as much. No coincidence so many players were receiving serve and short pushing better than they ever have. Kanak handled WCQ's serves like he was a regular practice partner. Reduce spin and it's no coincidence Mima Ito had her best tournament in a long time (and should have made the finals). Hugo relies less on spin than WCQ and LSD, so he had less disadvantage on serve/receive and his power dominated. Doesn't matter in the end, that was an amazing win for him. But the seamless ball had something to do with it for sure.

We cant expect the chinese to be perfect for 30 years, even liu guoliang ,who was proven to be the best coach ever in the history of the sport, had lots of issues to solve in the beginning of his career

If you look at it objectively , they had at least 2 or even 3 unbeatable players so far from 2000 and so on. 2003-2004 was a transition period for them and the chinese ALWAYS do not get so well in transition periods (2010 losing the team's women title was also the "same" scenario)

in the early 2000 to 2010, wang liqin, ma lin and wang hao , were unbeatable when on form

later on we had ML XX ZJK with the same effect and at a small period of time there was also FZD (who in my eyes is definitely not on the level of ML ZJK but definitely better than XX in singles, XX though I think has better record against non chinese players than FZD)

But ! It seems to me that LGY,WCQ, LSD and LJK are simply not at the same level of performance when it matters, especially when compared to the previous "BIG 3" combinations one being WH,ML,WLQ and the other XX ML ZJK

Maybe it is a coach thing, who knows, for sure they need to adapt to the incoming challenges though

It's funny that Hugo is playing with a discontinued blade. Great marketing for Xiom lol.
You guys are all laughing. I was about to go to TT11 and buy 2 of that blade. Just to boost the hype.

Did you notice how LSD tried to lift Calderano's under spin serves, first with his BH then with his FH and he failed both times, after that He started respecting that serve and just tried to chop those serves back as hard as he could, however Hugo would third-ball those returns and LSD was frustrated as hell, amazing level displayed by Calderano.

I still can't believe that someone managed to beat the Chinese at a top level tournament. It's certainly never happened since I started following international table tennis.
Timo did it in 2017 world cup. He just lost to Dima at the end unfortunately. So this is more pure.

Ma Long is about to retire anyways. He probably would have struggled if Hugo was hitting hard with accuracy like today.

Remember Ma Long lost to similar hard hitters Patrick Franziska and Lee Sang Su.
Have you seen last year how he came back against Lin Gaoyuan at the same event? Ma Long would’ve found a solution. Lin Shidong literally played right into Hugo’s hand starting from the second game. I’m not saying he would’ve 100% won but I’d have rather bet on him even seeing Hugo’s performance today.
