How true is the 48 hours rest though. I believe Kanak is only playing singles whereas Eduard playing XD and MD as well. Has it really been 48 hours since Eduard last played a match?
it is true
in this kind of scenario, you only compare singles, because Kanak has a valid point

Kanak had a 18 May, 19:50 match (that finished after 9pm),
then 19 May, 12:30 match

Eduard had a 17 May, 14:00 match.

From my experience, Kanak likely only got back to his hotel after 11pm, sleep, maybe midnight or later.
and if the match is 12:30, he needs to be warming up at 9am already, so up around 7am to be on time (or factor in another 20 mins in case shuttle errors)

We should not take doubles or XD into consideration, as those are your own choice to enter.
but if you enter into singles only, and such early rounds, it is not correct to have last match of the previous day then, a noon match the next day.

So, I feel the pain of Kanak.

CCTV5 "CCTV Report" reporter observation | Li Wujun: Doha is still far from the organizational standards of the three major competitions
Li Wujun: At the Doha World Table Tennis Championships, each team stayed in eight different hotels, which posed a great challenge to the organizing committee's organizational work. At the same time, the Doha World Table Tennis Championships is divided into the main hall and the secondary hall, and the distance between the main hall and the secondary hall is more than ten kilometers. I remember a few days ago in the training hall of Qatar University, I saw that after the teams adapted to the venue, they waited for the shuttle bus for an hour, which also caused some confusion in their arrangements.
In addition, there was such a scene in the competitions in the past few days, that is, the driver sent the sports team to the wrong venue, so that some athletes' competitions were forced to be postponed, especially for the teams of multiple events, which encountered greater challenges. Some teams can only choose to give up those young players who are not well-known and have low levels. It can be said that this is also a scene we don't want to see.
Although Doha has successfully held some WTT series in recent years and accumulated certain experience, Doha still needs to work hard to meet the high standards of the three major competitions.
sadly, this is so true.
waiting and taking shuttles from hotel to venue 1 to 2 (or return) + back to hotel, is more hours than actual playing matches.

so it is not a good experience.

Of course they have multiple rackets there, it's just risky to play a different one to the tested racket, but WCQ did actually switch. If it fails after the match it will be a loss, Adam said that the racket passed during the next match though.
So there is that much variation in racquets of the same type? I didn't realize quality control was that bad.

Anyone know what happened with WCQ racket before the match. Even Calderano was looking at his own racket as well and look like there was something wrong with his racket as well. Did the umpires removed the rubbers from WCQ and Calderano before the match?
Just to offer an additional perspective on this...
It wasn’t clear (to the general public) whether the umpires or officials removed the rubbers during the pre-match testing, but it didn’t seem like they did.

WCQ appeared unhappy after noticing that the top edge of one of the rubbers had come unglued, while the umpire insisted that no one had made contact with the racket apart from the official procedures.

In his exchange with Hugo, it appears Hugo suggested that the edge could have been nicked when the racket was placed inside the envelope used for transport, which could have caused the ungluing.

WCQ stated he couldn’t play with the racket in that condition (audible during the broadcast) and insisted on using his spare. According to the commentators, he did end up switching, and the spare racket passed the post-match testing successfully.

I’m not a fan of the umpires removing the rubber to check if racket is legal. Can’t they tell if the blade is legal by doing thickness and flat test with rubbers on? No need to remove the rubbers and can clearly see the sponge of the rubber outside since WCQ doesn’t use edge tape.

Why did the umpire remove the rubbers from his blade in the first place though?

I swear WCQ has a ton of bad luck when it comes with his racket.
A lot of speculations and none grain of truth. 🤧

What makes it more annoying is that there are still matches in the same round yet to be played, so there is no reason why his match had to be played so early unless the scheduling is more complicated. There really needs to be a better algorithm for this.

Elbeiali is pulling a Harimoto after winning every point it becomes hysterical.
The seeds are falling left and right.

And the part you can't say out loud is that Ionescu had a joke of a first round match while Kanak got a tough player who plays in the TTBL, just to compound the rest issue.

I probably made this point back then but when you bring up this argument again, please remember it:
Please also remember you're quoting a league match that is of little significance. Using a league match to prove a point, man... Remember Kallberg?

yeah, unfortunately the draw is always based on luck.
but scheduling is man made (error)

you travel half way around the world for a tournament once every 2 years, and you face this kind of issue.

Oh yeah of course, I just mean it is understandable how Kanak could have lacked that extra push as things started going south in the middle of the match.
