ITTF WTTC Finals Doha 2025, 5/17-25

says Miwa does it!
I thought Miwa had it figured out but we're going to a decider!
To state the obvious, even if you have it figured out, playing against a superb LP opponent is just so draining… And I think stamina may have been Miwa's Achilles' heel. Still, ever since she beat Honoka in a major competition I know she surely has the resilience it takes to take on both incredible defenders and LP players.

It took only one game for a way older Gauzy to be back on track after that kind of draining mental energy match. Miwa is a teenager, at that age without proper cardio conditioning I could play 7 matches a day in official tournaments. Kids do play WAY MORE in their 15 or so.

Franz comeback win from 0-3 to 4-3 against Cho and now Wan/Winter are coming back after being down 0-2 against Chinese Taipei Huang/Tsai.
Loved the way Franz used the serve challenges. The system worked and he picked up two easy points. More importantly he got into the head of Cho. From that point on he was probably thinking to serve slightly differently to make sure it's legal.

Happy ITTF is enforcing serve compliance.

Whew! Thankfully Hina won, but Hina was pushed to the limit by Hana. If Hana continues to play like this, there's gotta be a Euro Champs/Games/Cup champion in her future.
She's already won the last ETTU Championships in double with Barbora Balazova.

I know, I know. But I'm not even sure it is solely physical. Rather, it is a mix of mental and physical stamina, requiring great mental and physical resilience. The thinking that goes into the decision making in playing against long pips weighs on you somewhat differently, doesn't it?

I think Miwa was aware of it. I noticed that before she entered the hall she crouched with her head between her legs for quite a long time. I've never seen her do that.

Interesting change of perspective after calling her overrated a few years ago... Good for her to have finally proved her worth.

Don’t forget KKY destroyed Miwa in the final of the Asian Champs last year.

I don't recall calling her overrated just that she found the tournament without the top Asians. I call it as I see it. If someone improves significantly as she has, then I'm able to acknowledge it rather than condemn them to retirement.

Looks like Miwa had a burst of energy in the last game. I feel sorry for Kim because she may have lost the privilege of eating when she gets home.
