I thought Hari was done too. Badly giving away 2 sets while up 4+ points late would shake anyone. Seemed like it was headed to 4-2 win for Lin. Harimoto's resilience really is something else.

ZYL said Ito was in the open competing every day, whereas she was in the dark being away for 5 years. She noted that Ito's expression was somber and she was weighed down by psychological burden after the handshake before the match because her expectation on the match was rather high because by comparison she was the younger player. She went on to add that Ito didn't play well at first whereas she was off to a good start but then Ito as the Olympic champion adapted and leveled the game score, and the key of the match was in G5 where her qi/aura was slightly stronger than that of Ito in the middle game or on a certain point.

Harimoto keeps finding ways to win. His blocking has gotten him almost as many points as his attacks. WCQ has a tendency to overcommit to certain FH shots (many of which are outright winners); put a few of those back on the table, get a few points off serve as he did against Lin...the path is there. And yet it still feels like WCQ's to lose.

WCQ's recovery is better than LSD and even more importantly, WCQ is a lefty so he is just harder to read and can hit angles that Harimoto is not used to defending. If lefties were common in table tennis, righties would train those angles too and it would be far less of an issue.

I was amazed by Tomo's bounce back in games 6 and 7. Not only did Tomo lose two sets where he had a big lead, but LSD also had so many lucky net balls.
Great mental fortitude by Harimoto, respect.

Harimoto's OLP lost against Fan paid off immensely, Lin is just a FanZD lite with a weak FH and premature BH so I think Hari got no problem countering his style. Even when Lin bounce back 3 set in the middle of the match, Harimoto was still controlling him tactically, only lost because of Lin's lucky balls at crucial moments.

That's the one reason why I wasn't in a rush to push for Harimoto but that said, look at what Felix and Darko did - we can hope. And Harimoto has shown an increase in forehand power and ability doing some new things - even his ability to serve long and get low enough to hit the Lin Shidong forehand every single time in that final game - I don't think there are many players in the world with the flexibility and power to do it the way he did it.

I think Darko and Felix used spinny forehand and crazy placements to make the rallies' pace kind of slow and unpredictable. This would disrupt Wang's rythm and made some hard time for him to adapt. On the other hand, Harimoto still relies on his speed, which is of course Wang's favourite game. So I still don't think he can do anything good against Wang Chuqin. For being very optimistic, the game will end with 4-2 to Wang.
