WS R32
Takahashi 3-2 Harimoto (6)
Something has been off with the Harimoto siblings for much of 2025. Tomokazu found new resolve by turning to the Dark Side. What about Miwa? Once again, what's going on over at Kinoshita after ATTC 2024?

MS R32
Pucar 2-3 Duda (9) (-6, -12, 7, 9, -7)
Uda has a chance if Duda plays like how he did in G3 and G4.

Moregard (6) 3-2 Matsushima (8, -7, -8, 6, 4)
Is it really a good idea that Tanaka is not going to ATTTC 2025?

Tanaka: U for useless to Togami and Matsushima.

MS R32
Tanaka 3-2 Moregard (5) (10, 10, -4, -6, 12)
G5 25 TO for Tanaka, 55 TO for Moregard, 56, 76, 78, 88 no side edge for Moregard, 98 down-the-line serve for Tanaka, 910, 1010, 1011, 1111, 1211 slight net for Tanaka, 1212, 1412
Moregard gets eliminated again in R32 of GS after SGP GS 2022 and 2025. His worst GS result is R64 at Saudi Smash 2024.

Tanaka: I'm your senior when it comes to catching WCQ.

The Tanaka from ATTC 2023 is here. A very calm and intelligent player. Probably even higher than Shinozuka when it comes to reading the game. Must've studied Togami's loss in detail. His overall stats in 2024 were not shabby.

Ruibo’s choking today can be excused a bit by his age and the fact that Calderano seems to do quite well to comeback at times. Ruibo is still only 18 so once he gets more experience he’s going to be a force for china, and imo a candidate for LA 2028

For men's single bracket, we've reached round 16. Among 16 survivors, we see,
4 Gemans,
3 Japanese, 3 Koreans
and noticeably,
only 1 Chinese in LSD

Are we seeing the declining of table tennis empire and entering a multi-polar world? Considering the last WTT champion event, there was also a lone Chinese WCQ but at the semi stage. This time, the lone wolf happens only at much earlier stage. The answer is clear, table tennis has reached parity, a very welcoming sign for global audience, at least in men.

For women, Chinese still maintains her solid dominance for now. European women still lacks behind in quite a distance. Japanese girls, especially younger ones(Miwa, Odo, etc) need to have another burst of growth to truly challenge the Chinese. It takes time.

I was very impressed by the play of the Korean guys - An Jaehyun and Oh Junsung. In my opinion, they took the best from all tennis nations - Chinese-style forehand topspin is very low, powerful and reliable, Japanese speed, footwork and technicality, European ability to play at a distance, a sense of the ball and a reliable backhand.
In addition, I really like their attitude to the game. Such a contrast to the shouts of Moregard and Harimoto, seriousness of Chinese players. It feels like An and Oh are simply enjoying the game.

1 Chinese man advanced to 16, and 7 Chinese women in 16. I am sure there some heavy changes going to be made very soon!

Why is it Ruibo choking and not Hugo playing to his level? What easy opportunities did Ruibo miss?

U saying that squandering 5 game points and squandering probably a decent chance to potentially upset Chinas biggest threat is not choking? Ruibo was playing out of his skin in game 4 until Hugo turned it up, but still Ruibo had the quality to try and take hugo even closer than he did

I'd agree with all of that except to say that he choked.
I mean, did Hugo choke in G1 when he had 2 game points? Even when Hugo pulled out the BTB shot Wen still got it done to seal game 1.
I thought it was just 10yrs extra experience and an outstanding opponent when it mattered and altho there was one bad miss at 10-7 I still reckon choked is a bit harsh.
But anyway, he does look like a kid we might see a lot more of, he played so well in the open rally, it was a terrific match!

Thats the thing - why do you say he "squandered" 5 game points? Why dont you think Hugo squandered 5 points to give Wen the lead? Its interesting how people make the psychology of big leads being lost about bad play when they dont identify what exactly the player who lost the lead did to play badly while playing a superior player. Hugo came back from 3-10 against Oikawa in Argentina and while people did say Hugo stole one, watching the streak, it is hard to identify what Oikawa did wrong. I felt the same way watching Ruibo today. Losing big leads is only choking when you can point out the points that should have been handled differently to get a different result from what occurred. If Ruibo had the quality to get to 10-5, we also know Hugo had the quality to tie it.

Choking is sometimes overused for a loss.
