where to train in Japan (Tokyo)

says Open t o play :)
also I mentioned it in other threads already, but there are always many OPEN tournaments going on every week (even on weekdays ) all around Tokyo. anyone can participate, even tourists.

check this site nocha.jp

there is also this site p4match.com which offers round-robin type tournaments with no elimination, so you're guaranteed a fixed number of matches (most often 4 or 5)..

usually you have to register for tournaments about 1 month before.

--
of course for official tournaments you need to register at your local federation for local tournaments, or at JTTA (main federation) and STTA for regional and national tournaments.

Foreigners living in Japan are allowed to play at the JTTA team league level, and allowed to play in the national tournament in Doubles only. the annual JTTA Tokyo Open is also welcoming them.

There is no restriction for STTA, but the level is (up to high-level) amateur , there are no pros there.
Hi @Takkyu_wa_inochi , first of all thanks a lot for so many Tokyo-related TT information! You're pretty much the only ressource on the English internet regarding playing TT in Japan as a foreigner.
I would definitely check out some tournaments and the Sports Centers. My only question is: Is it actually feasible and "ok" for the locals if a non-Japanese speaker shows up?

The system i talked about is only on Tuesday and Fridays in B2 from 6 to 9pm
Entrance is 300 yens
It gets crowded quickly so better to come a bit early

Other days only a smaller room on B1 is available and not so many good players

It’s better to check on the website or call them if you want to be 100% sure
Takkyu,

I'm from Brazil and I'm going to Japan in May. I'll be visiting Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto.
I saw your posts and they helped me choose places where I can play in Tokyo.
I want to buy equipment and I liked the website www.kokusaitakkyu.com. I saw that they have a store in Shibuya. Have you bought it there? My biggest question is: Do they accept Wise and Nomad cards? (I sent them an email but they didn't know)

Is there a place where you can buy it in Tokyo?

Thank you in advance.

Yes I always go to the store in shibuya
The main store is in Takadanobaba but it’s a bit farther from home for me.

I don’t know what kind of payment they accept. They have a lot of people from abroad coming to buy so I wouldn’t be surprised if they accept Wise although it’s not popular in Japan. You’d better ask them first.

I don’t know my schedule yet in May but if I’m here I can play in central Tokyo in Minato Sports Center
@Vrael is my teammate but we don’t practice often as he lives really far from me alas

@Takkyu_wa_inochi
I am currently on a research visit to Tokyo until the end of December. I am from India, and I have played a decent amount of table tennis there (I represented my University once).
In Tokyo, I either go to some random meetup groups or Room MK group lessons in Ichigaya. I saw on a lot of discussion threads that you run a group practice session in Minato ward sports centre, and was wondering whether you have some space to accommodate one more person. I currently live in Nihonbashi, so travelling would also be easy.
I miss rigorous drills, and a lot of places to do that in Tokyo are super expensive. If your group does not have any space, can you suggest some more practice groups?

Hi Takkyu,
I’ll be in Tokyo Sept 7–10. Any chance to meet up for some matches in Minatoku center? I’m an intermediate player— used to play a bit professionally (almost 1 year) when I was 14. Would be great to meet you there.

on september 22 and 29 (both mondays) you can go to Yokohama Budokan. its a huge modern and fantastic venue, which is hosting TT sessions regularly. 700 yens you can play all day anytime from 9;30 to 20;30. highly recommended.

i am coming back to Tokyo on Oct1st so we can maybe play a bit in Minato

For Yokohama at the dates I gave you it’s free to play all day. Doubles singles whatever . On other dates it’s for other purpose not necessarily table tennis

wow ! I've checked the Yokohama Budokan from their website and the place seems so cool as you said , and only about 20mins from the hotel I live, did you mean on Monday it's free and will charge 700 yen per person on other days? thanks!

Good afternoon) I feel a little awkward asking you, as we don't know each other, but if you have the opportunity, please visit the official Butterfly tennis store in Japan. Last year, they launched a custom-made blade service, but only within Japan. Maybe you can place an order. In any case, any information about whether this service is still working would be very helpful, and I would greatly appreciate it.
Here is a list of Butterfly store addresses where you should be aware of this: https://www.butterfly.co.jp/shop/
