You make a fair point that it would have been difficult to predict the things you mentioned since PRK are an unknown quantity. My point is that it would have been at least as safe/good to pick Hashimoto over Odo. The latter didn't perform well in her match against Batra in a similar situation last year. Hashimoto has the better record against non-Japanese players than Odo YTD. In addition, it's more difficult to emulate Hashimoto's style (for studying purposes) than Odo's. If North Korea had a world class chopper, then they would have fielded such a player.

Hashimoto is in the form of her life. Why not give her a chance?

Not against giving players chances. And you don't need to have a world class female chopper in your country to play and practice against great defense as a woman, you can always practice against men. I suspect Hashimoto will play the semis, but if not, it is not unusual for players to never play, or for Hashimoto to play the finals under the assumption she is their best chance to beat the Chinese #3 etc. My main point though is that these things are easy to speculate on after the fact. I would have been fine with Hashimoto playing but I am also fine with her not playing, hindsight is always 20-20, the coach knows what he is trying to do with the team.

Despite her <50% win rate for 3 years since 2022, Sawettabut knows how to play lefties, with wins over teammate Paranang, Pavade, Hayata..., and is no doubt a staple of the team that beat IND and PRK at Asian Games 2022 and FRA at Paris 2024.
