@Matt Hetherington, I am actually a bit disappointed that you are not being back the Joola Carrera rubber, but in Carrera II Turbo version for Hugo. Even make a blue sponge national version. The you can have my money from my pocket. 😂

I played with that rubber during my youth and for those doesn’t know the rubber, it was a tacky Chinese style one.

It’s going to be interesting to see what Hugo chooses for his official blade. His previous blade was Koto so switching to Xylo 7 with Limba top instead is not something I expected from him.
I don’t think it will be a permanent thing, but we will see

It’s just a standard commercial blade, there aren’t many of them left but I’m assuming he tried Vitor’s and felt stable with it for now so we hustled to send some more of whatever is left.
What do you mean not a lot of them left? :( I have it in my shopping card while I wait for my fun budget to replenish :)

He can't use his Xiom racket with new handles and then have Joola make clones?
If he wanted that then Joola could just make the exact same racket. He’s been trying also carbon fiber options in previous months even before he switched to Joola. His equipment decisions are up to him in the end.

It really funny how naive perception about athletes is so different from what actually happens when you understand or onow how they are interacting with each other.

Fan: I want to buy Hugo's blade because he is so good with it.
Hugo: I am not even sure Hugo's blade is the best i can do - Gauzy just beat me with that carbon blade - and I want to be the best. Let's test a few more things...

Right, I mean once you get to that level you are not looking for big jumps in level anymore there’s not much you can do technically or in terms of knowledge of the game. It’s mostly down to looking for 1%ers in mental or equipment or maybe something uniquely tactical against individual opponents etc

So I think he is just trying to see if there are blade changes he could make to help since he has a chance to develop some different things now in the ‘beginning’ so to speak.

In 2023, Simon Guazy's coach said to him, "Son, youve been ranked #8 in the world. You are now ready to try an inner carbon blade, youre not a beginner anymore." Afterwards, they locked eyes and hugged. Is it possible
Hugo's game reaches the level, where the forum here will agree inner carbon wont be too fast for him. I know Joola will be ready with sweet carbon blades for him when its time.

I find myself wondering what a heavier Rossi Emotion would do in his hands... I went from that to the HAL and found they had similar hand feeling and near table play but the HAL had a higher gear. Maybe thicken up the core? 🤔 And improve the handle...

Why on earth would anyone make a custom blade with a Xylo 7 handle? 😂
To generate revenue from selling regular off-the-shelf rackets. No top player uses rackets available in retail stores. I mean, does anyone seriously believe that professionals play with the same rackets we ordinary mortals can buy? That’s their livelihood.
By the way, it’s the same situation in tennis. The rackets available on the market have nothing to do with the ones used by Federer, Nadal, Novak, Sinner, Alcaraz… It’s just a paint job — and in table tennis, it's basically a handle glued onto one of who-knows-how many test rackets (often 40 or more) that the player liked.

I am naive enough to believe a version of it. Blades are only one part of the racket process in table tennis and I have no problem believing that blades that some top pros use are pretty similar to what you can buy in the store, only with a spec sheet of preferences that a specific pro might desire. Whether this spec sheet contains characteristics that would affect whether that blade would be sold commercially (weight that people wouldn't buy etc.) is a separate issue. But I used to play with pretty heavy blades so I know that it was possible to find a few. But I am not a fan of heavy blades now and I suspect most people who don't spend their lives playing TT aren't. But I am also confident if there was a reasonable market for such, they would be available. But like oversized (size 15+) playing shoes, they are not commercially available for that reason.

Even in tennis, strings are often pretty important as well as the tension to which the racket is wired. In table tennis, rubbers are usually more important and are often boosted. Given how frequently some pros change blades/rubbers with modern water based gluing etc., it would be interesting if they were wedded to using things that could not come out of a reasonable production process.
