Been training with H3 NEO Prov. Orange sponge this week (instead of TG2) with my Stiga Dynasty Carbon CS.

The problem for me with less tacky NEO OS h3 it's quite difficult to make the ball stay on the rubber enough time to make a loop kill when the ball is low...and when blocking it slips sometimes and falls into the net. I've been playing with h3 on the fh since forever and with older tackier h3 it was never a problem.

The control in the short game is much worse with h3, as well as some tricky shots.

Now with TG2 Prov. blue the ball doesn't drop almost never, it's very, very consistent. However to achieve good speed one has to have Xu Xin movement to get to the ball and have a swing. Orange sponge is much easier to activate so my technique adjusted and even when I'm not in perfect position I still can do marvellous shots, especially in doubles.

With TG2 the ball does spin better and it seems that it falls not at the edge of the table, but closer to the middle, which is more stable and consistent, however easier to block for my opponents.

TG2 is also very boosting-dependant, h3 neo OS - not so much.

edit: also, counter top spins seem easier with h3 os since the ball penetrates the rubber well regardless of tackiness since it has a lot of incoming speed and spin. But generating my own power when the ball has little of it -pretty hard without tackiness.

I wonder what DHS rubber would be the middle ground here? Is it TG3 prov. blue may be ?
I have the same problem with h3 os, lack of tack and the ball just flies away before I can brush hard

my solution has been to use h3n bs, 39 degree version. boost it once and pair it with a fast blade (i use harimoto super alc atm). bs more powerful and more dwell as we all know, and even after boost is gone, its still good in combination with a fast blade. I dont need to bother with reboosting since 39 degree is easy to hit through

This is the first time I'm seeing this, but TableTennis11 has DHS Hurricane 3 Neo Provincial Blue Sponge in 38° 😱

Do they only have it in black but also in red as well?
They only have it in 2.1 Black 😢 I did order it, but I won't be using it till after my team tournament in May. I've only seen one person that's tried out blue Sponge on backhand it was Xue Fei vs Wang Chuqin in WTT Macao 2021 (R16). I know Fan Zhendong did as well, but he twiddled his blade while Xue Fei glued it on his backhand and possibly Orange Sponge Hurricane on his forehand.

Why is that I boost H3N OS or BS just right and it feels great, I break it in it feels even better and then the topsheet just starts slipping? I'm talking about a 2 week old H3 topsheet, it has no marks or nothing but the topsheet slips the ball crazy. And I feel it during play it is causing me issues.

Then I do the same boost with B3 and don't have this issue, I use Loki Rxton 7 or 9 and I don't have this issue for months.

What's up with H3? Do we really need to buy national to avoid this?

Maybe a booster issue? I'm still using boosted Rxton 7 National on BH on one racket + H3N BS Provincial but for me the Rxton 7 started to slip much earlier. Booster: Seamoon 2, two thin layers initially, enough to create a nice dome/semicircle but did the third reboost some weeks ago with baby oil which seems to have accelerated degeneration/worsened slippage. Battle 2 Soft was somewhere in the middle but reacted much less to Seamoon 2.
Rxton 7 and H3N BS are now in use for around 4 month each 1)
The other possible problem could be the balls and/or venue/tables (some tables collect dust better than some dusters ;)). Any orange ball is more or less crap, Nittaku balls are not much better except when fresh.
Best topsheet grip over a long time: Battle 3 (black longer than red as with H3(N)) but it also reacts less to Seamoon 2. 2)

1) on average maybe 6 hours per week training + matches but sometimes 8 to 10 hours. Still impressive compared to any ESN rubber I've used in the past.
2) I don't know what the issue is with Battle 3 but I still can't play with B3 38° on my BH as well as with Rxton 7 38°, H3N 38 or even H3N BS 39 or Telson 100 which also felt like 38°.

I have then same experience with blocking with h3 os. Other shots - very good performance.

Blue sponge is fine, the ball sinks into the sponge better.

May be when DHS changed the formula to less tack it's now very booster dependant, in two weeks some effect is gone already, the sponge is not lively anymore and without tack orange sponge just doesn't grab the ball well ? that's my theory.

Also, I tried 37 Ma Long version and it's still tacky, but this is a backhand rubber - no slippage on backhand because of the angle and wrist movement for me. My blocks fail on the forehand side with prov. and regular h3 os 40.

My experience with several H3 and TG3 across the last year:

QC of prov H3 from ali is next to terrible, sponge hardness and weight are pure lottery. Grip level was consistent.

There is no difference in the grip level and durability between nat and prov H3 BS. But I have just one national H3N for comparison.

H3 OS is a bit more sticky than BS and holds the grip better with time. It has better resistance to oxidation, but still, without a tight cover sheet, will eventually oxidize.

Best product for removing oxidation and keeping the grip:
1000001151.jpg

I use it when the grip feels inconsistent, once per month or so.

Falco platinum remains forever in the sponge. Is weaker than haifu, so don't expect unlocking of sping sponge, but effect is consistent in time.

TG3 BS generates more spin than H3 BS, it is a bit more sticky and remains shiny for longer. There is no free lunch, TG3 is heavier and slower.

Rxton 7 I didn't boost at all and I don't have problem with that. I sure hope B3 won't do it, so far it didn't.

You could try B3 purple sponge for BH side, I wouldn't boost that tbh.

Rxton 7 for me was already super fast, can't imagine it with booster.
Rxton 9 seems to have the same sponge but different topsheet and it's also nice for FH.

I have no idea why it happens. My best guess is what ttarc is saying, that the booster does it. Maybe it goes thru the sponge and contacts the rubber and kills it.

Hmm... maybe some cleaner issue or something wrong with the protective sheets if you use these? I don't know...

Too fast ;) At least on FH. On BH still slow enough for a good short game and I would say better suited for the modern BH to BH kick/rip short stroke exchanges than for larger strokes.

B3 purple is only available in 39° and 40°...

Rxton 9 seems to have the same sponge but different topsheet and it's also nice for FH.

I won't switch from H3N on FH to anything else anytime soon. Only if they stopped selling it ;)
The softer Rxton 9 Pro might be worth trying on BH.

I usually use the white sheet that comes on the glue side of the Neo H3 😂

B3 purple is actually available in 40.5, 41 and 41.5 hardness too on taobao and the 40.5 and 41.5 are 30 rmb more expensive for some reason. The 40 deg doesn't feel hard at all, I kinda wanna get the 41.5 degree
