To be honest, most local stores can't compete against ALi or Temu pricewise. I have not gone to Walmart for a while because I bought most of my stuff from Ali, even just a couple of scissors.
Same here, I buy just about everything from Aliex not only my TT-gear but also my socks , shorts and car wind- screen wipers etc etc. 🤣 ............and the government takes 15 % of everything.

He just said he travels and Europe is one of many continents he resides in, and those fees can affect how he pays for things. Is there something you're not understanding, or do you just like complaining in all the threads at this point?

If you have problem with my posts just ignore them

You didn't answer my question though lol From now on, you really need to think thoroughly of what you plan on saying because complaining all the time isn't helping anyone, it just shows you lack emotion intelligence. Hope this helps!

I've never ordered from AliExpress, but had interest just to see how the prices are. Is the estimated duties a new thing they started charging, or has it been around for some time?

it is different from country to country. In the case of NZ it has already been a while.
Before, small parcels with a declared value of (maybe) under NZ$ 100 were coming through customs without being charged any taxes. I think it was pressure from the local retailers that made the government realize that they are missing out of a lot of money. Alibaba is of course more than happy to collect the money and then (I assume) periodically pass it on .

why would the government charge you extra for a product that is created in a foreign country that the EU has nothing to do with?
seems ridiculous.

"oh because we want to protect you with all the EU regulations and we also want to protect the planet and we want to protect the poor workers from china".

don't protect me.
every time you try to protect something or someone the prices go up.

Don't be silly it's got nothing to do with protection but every government wants your money so every time you buy something they get some money . Simple really 😁 😁 😁

Maybe you should buy locally instead ;) But Chinese of course :D
Absolutely, it’s not healthy to send all this little stuff across the world. Buy locally or from å country close. This way the local economy is strengthen and the world collects a little less garbage. I would never ever dream of ordering anything from China when I can get it from next door…

Cheers

very thoughtful and generous of you. I prefer buying from china and pay only a 3rd of what it costs in a shop here. I also get it delivered to my door instead of having to start up the car and drive to a shop.

i understand people can be pressured to use those channels for financial reasons, or have been conditioned to value the comfort, i'm guilty of that myself. but of course @Lazer is right.

I think it was pressure from the local retailers your friendly neighbourhood Amazon that made the government realize that they are missing out of a lot of money.
Fixed that for ya. Small retailers have pretty much zero voice here, it's the large online ( and usually dropshipping Chinese stuff) platforms putting the pressure on and profiting from this change.

Guess what, it works. Gonna have to go to Bezos for half-decently priced rubbers now.

Amazon and Ebay are the US government basically.
unless you believe these silly stories of the lone entrepreneur who somehow became owner of these huge platforms.
mark zuckerberg, elon musk, peter thiel, jeff bezos.... all these guys and their products are the US government basically.

not really.
most of the stuff on aliexpress you will not find it on amazon.
I search "loki rxton" on amazon I get 1 result :ROFLMAO:

people will continue to buy on aliexpress but at a higher price.
it's the only alternative at this point.

There is this 3Euro Tax PLUS VAT (so for a country that VAT is 24%, it becomes 3.72Euro) They add VAT to tax!!! So nice!!

You are lucky that they don't charge for shipping otherwise the bill could look afair like this:
goods = 100 €, import VAT = 19%, shipping 10€, tariff 2%, shipping in the EU = 5€

customs value = goods + shipping = 100€ + 10€ = 110€
amount of duty = customs value * 2% = 2.2€
import vat value = customs value + amount of duty + shipping in the EU = 110€ + 2.2€ + 5€ = 117.2€
import vat = 117.2€ * 19% = 22.268€
total = 117.2€ + 22.268€ = 139,468€
If you don't have an account with DHL or Fedex they too will charge a fee for handling customs...

And even if you buy two exactly similar products but from different seller the price goes up to 6Euro plus VAT (7.44Euro in total)!
Enjoy:

Yes but this is because the 3€ is per category and per parcel. Two shops = two parcels = 2* 3€ even if the products are in the same category.
That's why I calculated a bit and ordered all rubbers from one store instead of three different stores...

Well to Wheel around 6 kg CO2 from Beijing to Cologne for a 1kg parcel going by plane. That's around 25 km to 42 km (16 to 26 miles) by car depending on fuel/electricity mix including battery production and so on (well to wheel). No TT stores in that distance here...

How much stuff that you already use, day in, day out, is made in China? Get real.
