Yes. I realized that when @Janard was asking who was the hammer, he was really talking about how aggressive and powerful Shinozuka was against Uda. He has raised the power and aggression to a higher level that his usually sneaky shot selection.

Noted. The reason I believed in his chance is simple.

Shinozuka was in 2nd place on the selection standing for Paris 2024 until the herniated disc in 2023 wiped out his form, and only then Togami overtook him (here and here). Not unlike Uda (here).

I think if Shinozuka was playing his old style herniated disk or not, no one would care about his chances for 3rd place. When people play better, people are allowed to change their minds. Even you on Sora. We havent heard about his uselessness in a while.

If Shinozuka can beat Harimoto playing like this, then all bets are off.

tactics wise, it was also a good match. Jang's long back hand and short forehand serves work greatly against Sora. I think Harimoto might learn a little bit from this match to beat Sora. But for one thing, Harimoto actually does not have that forehand and pivot for power of Jang. So hard to say at the moment, but I will not be surprised if Harimoto serves more long backhand tonight.

It's always been your own straw man argument, pitting Togami against Uda and now Uda against Shinozuka.

My argument has always been that Matsushima had come short of expectation that even Harimoto concurred. LA28 is still almost 2 years away. It's still a toss-up how the pecking order will turn out by then.

If Harimoto and F. Lebrun had not achieved so much in senior events at 14/15 and 15/16, respectively (the latter is only 7 months older than Matsushima), then Matsushima would have been given the child prodigy treatment like LYJ back in 2017/2018. But as of now, Matsushima being a good player won't cut it. With the revamped selection system now in place, he must become better than at least Uda, Togami, Shinozuka, Tanaka, and R. Yoshiyama to stand a chance for LA 2028, when he will be 21. If he doesn't by then, who knows how he will turn out for Brisbane 2032, when he will be 25. I mean look at Ito, who won't turn 23 until this October, already looks like a washed-up veteran.

So i should take it that you dont understand English? So someone coming short of expectations is "useless"? Someone who won the Japanese national.chsmps (now twice in a row) was being compared to Sun Yang, a chopper who has no such achievements? Someone who lost one match to Kenji Matsudaira was described as struggling with his teammates despite winning the national championships in decisive fashion after thst loss?

You can make up your own definition of strawman, but you can't erase all thr stuff you have written about Sora just because no one is going to be as OCD as you are and link to every insult about Sora you have posted. As some (Tony) pointed out, Harimoto was rushed and likely developed badly under the pressure of a home Olympics in Tokyo. Saying that Sora was doing badly because he wasnt ready for Paris 2024 is exactly the same kind of trap. Please accept your mistake and stop trying to accuse others of creating strawman when all your posts will not disappear here like they did at mytt.

Two years into the future is in principle an open question. If you want to bet $500 that Sora will not make the team because it is an open question, let me know. Otherwise, make serious statements, not banal insights masquerading as wisdom. Predictions backed up by risk are real, not juat confirmation bias statements. The Euro Smash is already in prelims. Truls has a lot of his ranking tied up in the Euro Smash. The question is whether to optimize rest and preparation and avoid switching timezones so close to the event when you have the choice vs playing and dealing with the recovery and jet lag. I suspect that the Europeans who played here didn't take the decision lightly.
