The issue was never about being a new user on the forum, but about the obscene level of leeway veterans get on this forum, as also mentioned by OP, selective punishment. As I mentioned and quoted, I was warned that I would get permanently banned from this forum for arguing about a warning that I received after using 1/10th of the harassment language that was used towards me by a veteran user, and even ended up getting a week for it. Imagine being a new user, very welcoming to get harassed by 10+ year old veterans, getting belittled as well as direct personal attacks, while those users are being defended by the moderators since they are "veterans", while the forum guidelines are completely ignored and once you raise the issue and the neglected forum guidelines, you as the new user gets banned?

I even raised the issue and complaint about the moderator handling through the contact us form afterwards, which was completely ignored and not a single response was made. How is this not nepotism?

How do you not see that as a major flaw in the handling of the forum?
I'm not going to get into a back and forth about something I wasn't involved in, haven't seen and is in the past.

Based on your explanation? Sure - It sounds like it was handled badly.

But history tells me there are always 2 sides to the story, and whilst it may not change anything, it may also add some context.

Feel free to DM me privately if it's an issue that still causes you a problem and I'll see what I can do to resolve it.

My take is that we have very good moderation here. Its very rare that it blows up bad. We have our old legacy combatants, but I think if posting stays civil it only spices the forum up. Without a difference of opinion things tend to get very boring…

Moderators: Thanks for doing a good job.

Cheers

Links are so important in this case, so why removed the posts only to post a screenshot of the last one, perhaps because it's inconvenient and an attempt to sway opinions?

The following exchanges happened on page 4, specifically in continuation to #49, #53 and #54 (at which point he started deflecting) on page 3.

You have reproduced all the arguments here in one post, which makes my point that there was nothing that required me to copy anything from the original thread.

You liked Matt's response to my post and you attempted to reason away ThePongCommenter's post. But here we are, you just "copied and pasted" what we've said all along when it suited you.
There is no contradiction between saying that *sometimes*, a brand may retain proprietary elements of a product which ESN cannot use in other products and that *sometimes*, ESN can use the same technology across many brands . IT is something you research on a case by case basis, not something to be asserted as *fact*. I made a casual, unresearched comment about the possibility of ESN reproducing a pips that Yasaka creates for Stiga as a possibility and you are interpreting it as a factual comment rather than a speculation which may or many not be true (it turns out btw that Karlsson was still using Rakza PO). I can understand that, but it does not affect my credibility. One can read my posts on the original thread about Joola with Matt and see that my statements are entirely consistent with this. I would not consider Bluefire and MX-P to be the same rubber even though they had the same technology in terms of using a sweet swelling relatively time-bound boosting chemical. Same with say Tibhar Genius vs Andro Hexer etc. There are definitely some elements of each generation of rubbers that are reserved to the brands and sometimes engineered specificially by the brands.

OTOH, you accused me of throwing shade at members while completely ignoring the fact that a member who likes one-liners threw ethnic slurs at me. Also remember shortly after you became a mod, you were quick to remove pongfugrasshopper's slur at me to cover it up and then after banning me for replying to him where I was coming from, started a thread to accuse me of posting true facts that were even admitted by the said player, while framing it as fan abuse of professional players.

Can you please explain what the ethnic slurs are and if they bothered you, why you declined to report them and whether anyone else would agree with you that they were serious ethnic slurs, and if so why no one else reported them? If it is something egregiously and transparently insulting, definitely, that is a bad judgment call on my part. And honestly, many of us might not have read the post at all or read it the way you did. That is why reporting is important if an issue is serious.

With Pongfugrasshopper, I removed the post as part of cleanup of the incident, which if I remember correctly, had you describing a 14 year old Japanese junior as "useless" for losing a match which pongfugrasshopper initially insulted you for, then after decided to report your original post. You decided that you had the right to reproduce the post where pongfugrasshopper insulted you after I had moderated the incident and cleaned up all related posts. I did not see it as protecting pongfugrasshopper. I saw it as cleaning up posts related to the original incident where I agreed with him. You never reported his post (which is normal, as there is some give and take on the forum). He reported yours, and I removed all the relevant interaction and either edited or removed your post. I took the reproduction of the post after I deleted yours as simply being a desire to post the material. And since you refused to PM any moderators for clarification, and refused subsequent overtures from me to understand your perspective, this is where we are. I am okay with your not agreeing with what I did, but the motives you ascribe to me are your motives not mine.

Finally, did you report any of the things you found as issues to other moderators or Dan? That is entirely your prerogative, but worth asking.

As I have repeatedly said, if someone can PM me or any moderator with what they disagree with, we can get to a better place. No one is a full time moderator, it is an unpaid volunteer role, and there are very few of us, so our approach is largely laissez faire.

At this point, you've lost all credibility as a mod. You can't even keep track of what you've written over the years. You're [self-censored].

I accept general conclusions from members as to how they feel about any specific incident, as not everyone is happy with moderation. There are quite a few members who consider me a bad moderator because of how much leeway I give you, so it is not a one-way street.

In any case, most people understand that moderation is relatively difficult and not a full time job. But the one thing I don't tolerate is anyone who consistently insults or disrespects me as a moderator, especially without giving me private audience or while giving me private audience and treating me like I am some kind of punching bag because I am trying to understand your perspective.

All that said, it is okay for you to think I am not a good moderator. What I will not accept is using that make blanket statements about my personality or morality, those I will not hesitate to address. And if such statements disrupt the flow of a thread, I will delete them. While I have never liked how comfortable you are with insulting players, especially juniors, which might be a cultural thing, I have never used that to infer anything about your overall morality as a person. Ultimately these are all internet discussions.

As one example, you have accused me of being compromised for taking the common sense position of siding with Matt Hetherington, who is a known public figure in table tennis circles when you make lots of posts insinuating he is laying without any hard evidence of pictures and when he actually goes out of his way to resolve conflicts between your experiences and his. And this commonsense position was reaffirmed by @NDH this morning.

The first time I remember getting into @BlopChock's bad graces was for telling him to use Google translate when he reported one of your posts. Since then, he has focused on many other things, and said that my discusing positively the lectures of Andy Fastboe (one of the men who went to jail for the Enron scandal) is a sign that inam morally bankrupt. I can understand why he woukd say that but I completely disagree. But since he hasnt presented anything else I will leave it at that.

Then ther is the @pongfugrasshopper argument where he took issue with a post of yours and then insulted you rather than reporting your post. Then he later reported your post and I went in and cleaned up the thread to bring it back on topic. And you didnt like that someone had deleted @pongfugrasshopper insulting you (which you didn't report ) and wanted to post it back and I deleted it again. And then you took it as a conspiracy against you and complained about it and reposted it and I banned you for it. I suspect back then I didnt realize that commentary on why a post was deleted was possible but I felt it was obvious that I deleted the post and I think you think my primary focus was trting to hid anything pongfu wrote rather than just getting thr thread on track. By all means since you use the way back machine, you can get and repost what pongfu said here since it still offends you so much. For me, it it was an issue that if there was any misunderstanding, it could have been cleared up in a conversation but you refused any conversation.

Feel free to bring up any situation that I have forgotten. All of theee things are just things that I cannot for thr life of me understand why anyone should be beyond a quick conversation to iron out differences and move on. But if you chose not to, that is fine as well. Just don't insult me and expect me to accept it.

And now you write:
*There is a Cantonese term for this exact scenario, 身有屎/body has shit, which corresponds to when the shit hits the fan.*

Alright. At this point, given the lack of your posting anything, I really do think you want to make yourself a martyr of some sort. In this particular case I have zero problem with that. No one will be fooled into thinking that someone who had received the most reported posts for political posting and posting untranslared posts without any serious bans is not a benefactor od aome degree of favoritism.
Took me some time to jog my memory on this issue. I rarely ever report posts, but I had to draw the line when someone denigrates a 13 yr old girl especially when she's a public figure. I did delete a post where I insulted zeio which then caused zeio to go into a frenzy. In general I try to keep my posts positive,, but perhaps emotions got the better of me that day.

As far as what would make this forum better, I'm just going to repost this from the "Terms and rules" link listed at the bottom of the forum's main page:

You have a history of moving posts and threads when it was convenient to you and OTOH removing them when it wasn't.
That was the reason why @Tony’s Table Tennis left the forum when his posts were moved around and at the time I agree that it shouldn’t have been moved to a different thread in the first place.

Hi, @Yxoons hope you are enjoying the forum. I would prefer to move on rather than rediscuss an issue where our perspectives may vary unless they rise to a level where they interfere with the forum - my observations are that you have found your wavelength and that most of the issues are around differences in experience using rubbers and boosting are being handled better now.

My apologies for any bad experiences you have had, Hopefully, you have found a way to subsequently enjoy the forum. As @NDH said, if the issue is still giving you trouble, please feel free to raise it with him or Dan or report the relevant posts. Again, I am sorry for any bad experiences you have had.

Sooner or later we were bound to have another "mods moving posts" thread

If I recall, this is exactly what pissed off Tony and then the 1 day ban, upgraded to 2 day ban was the adios on top of the cake.

The ban was for arguing why posts are moved….

SO question remains the same, does mods have the godlike ability to move posts around (removing, editing, deleting) as they please?

Are these moves in consultation with other mods or is one mod (the one who has a lot of free time here) can do as he/she please and move posts with other mods possibly not even aware of such moves happening ?
Of course users like ourselves would not know of moves that occur in the background.

Here is the video Tony shared before he left.
The post he shared on the forum was also deleted/moved.

Since it is 2025 content, you should just read his last message in the video, to Dan/NDH:
"I don't like it that nextlevel moves half (my?) posts from an issue of China-Japan to my (Tony's) thread of Taiwan and Olympics.
Carl would create a new thread and put (move) it there, is my request fair?"
Basically many posts he highlighted in the video was dumped in this thread: https://www.tabletennisdaily.com/forum/topics/why-taiwan-isn’t-“taiwan”-at-the-olympics.38478/

Hopefully Jackjohnson remembers the history better and can comment on how mods just moves things around. This was his opinion on the matter:
Things wouldn’t have escalated this badly had @NextLevel not moved the posts around and put it on Tony thread which Tony says were not relevant to his thread which I agree with Tony.

What I disagree with NextLevel is that he says we can’t talk about the racism or issues that the players or spectators have experience at the current ITTF Mixed Team World Cup. NextLevel says it not relevant to talk about it in the Mixed World Cup thread but I disagree with him, these discussions should be talked about in the ITTF Mixed World Cup thread as it is related to it and not be hidden or talked about somewhere else in the forums.
To @Dan and @UpSideDownCarl I hope you can reconsider this. We should be speaking up about issues that the players or spectators have faced which is currently happening at the current Mixed Team World Cup.

So a mod feels the content is irrelevant and should not be in the world cup thread and decided to moves many posts (including Jackjohnson’s post and other non Tony posts) to Tony’s thread unrelated to the world cup…..

Obviously we can see the Olympic thread is clean now, Tony’s video shows evidence on what mods can do on this forum and unknown to the majority. The 4th post in the video onwards was all moved from the world cup thread where people started talking about Chinese fans giving death threats to Harimoto (that started in the world cup thread, moved to Tony’s thread and then moved back)

So, who know you posts can be moved around? 😂

That's entirely fair - we can't agree on everything. How we disagree is often what sets the stage for what happens next.

@zeio @pongfugrasshopper - Do you see how you are both contributing to the problem here?

Yet again, we are talking about a back and forth that happened in the past, that was put to bed.

And here you both are trying to score points on the internet over each other by bringing it up.... again.

No one, and I mean, no one, wants to see you go at each back and forth.

If you'd like to do that, feel free to exchange numbers and have at it!

If you have ideas for better *forum moderation* as per the title, please list it here.

Stay on topic.

Thanks.

No, this is not a mod moving posts thread - this is a thread for people who think moderation is being done by me in a way that is immoral and makes no sense. This is a thread for @zeio and @BlopChock to raise any issues they have since they feel that it is not worth discussing over PM or with other moderators but felt it was worth discussing in the 2026 Europe Smash thread. I try to keep tournament threads relatively clean. Other threads, it is a case by case basis. After all, someone has changed the topic of a thread he started multiple times to reflect whatever topic he wants to discuss within it repeatedly.

Most of the moderation on this forum is laissez faire and tied to reporting. But the one thing I try to do is keep tournament threads focused. The specifics of what that means is open to anyone to debate but that is my overall motive.

EDIT: I just watched the video. At the base of it, Tony disagreed with a moderator decision. The decision was fixed because I agreed I made a mistake. Or maybe I didn't and I didn't fix it. In any case, there were a lot of things going on in tournament threads that ultimately devolved into political discussions, especially between zeio and Tony, and my own belief at the time was that if there wasn't a cost to doing so, people would continue to do it. Taiwan/Japan/China politics were at a serious level at that time. I don't follow any of the politics closely and I am not qualified to adjudicate all the nuances. IT is one of the reasons why moderation is a process. I focus more on the process, and it is not always going to lead to a universally acceptable conclusion, but it is more to get to a smoother place on the the tournament threads.

To clarify, the fan(s) said along the line 支持日本人的死/go die to those who support Japanese, which is more like a curse rather than a death threat in Chinese culture, and also should be considered in mind with the recent tension between China and Japan after Takaichi's comment.

That's just like those very typical 5ch comments that tell players to die after they lost badly.

Not sure what the link relates to, but the overall point that the forum argues for language that does not defame or insult other members or players is the main thing. It is an open question whether such language should be permitted on the forum, but I accept that the rule is not consistently applied, though you are the most common repeat offender when it comes to players. You might view it differently, but to some degree, in the Europe and the US, table tennis is a community of sorts, so people tend to know each other fairly well because we are unified by table tennis which is a niche sport where we live, Definitely not like soccer. If I criticize Lily Zhang, I know someone who knows her who might take it badly. Maybe because TT is more mainstream in Asia, they are treated like soccer stars even as children? MAybe that explains some of the difference of perspective.

Thanks for jogging my memory.

I remember the death threats to Harimoto at the Mixed Team World Cup but the mod NextLevel decided to move anything about those death threats/racism into a seperate thread which I disagree with, even Tony and others who commented in that thread disagree as well with the posts being move.

Even though it had nothing to do with the actual matches/outcome of those matches it was still something that happened at the Mixed Team World Cup that should not have been moved to another thread as it was still related to the events that happened at the Mixed Team World Cup.

When CIC experience inappropriate touching at the WTTTC 2026 did the mods move the posts to a different thread, NO but all of the sudden when it’s about racism or the death threats that was directed at the Harimotos the mod, Nextlevel decided to move those posts to a different thread.

This was the reason why Tony was annoyed with the posts being moved and I understand why he was feeling that way.

Why do you think I kept bumping up this thread that some accused me of propaganda, when no one questioned why it popped up out of nowhere?

Whatever the case, this thread is the result of yet another example of Streisand effect.

I actually did not move all the posts and I don't remember moving the "death threat" posts. Some posts were about the tournament and actions done within the tournament. Other posts went deeper into discussions about Japan and China in the context of Taiwan and those were the posts I moved. That said people can and do see things differently and if people really care they can ask about what was moved. The specific case of that thread was partly the result of a dance that had played out a certain way too many times. Tony and zeio had already had multiple back and forth around the topics related to those posts.

CIC complaining wasn't viewed as contentious discourse and political. So I do not see the analogy. But I can be convinced.

If the idea is that posts should never be moved, that is definitely an opinion you and some may hold, but I do not agree with it. And if the idea is that because I make mistakes in which posts to move that I should never move any, I do not agree with that in this case either. All that said this is a process.

The Streisand effect is interesting and it is good to see that is how you view this. Can you please say what was censored and what has been uncensored as a result of this thread or anything related?

Not sure this thread is worth replying to for anyone now, I would advise nextlevel to ignore most of this as it is clear I think to most people that the two trouble makers in the thread are causing issues once again with endless nonsence that was dead and buried and that any further contribution isnt actually useful or helpful to forum discussion and looks bad externally.

I would let people see how different members have conducted themselves so far and let them draw a conclusion as I think it's quite clear everyone's stance and let the thread die

You're another one to talk. You were intrigued by what I had to say. But like M51 in the thread below, you are just another one of those members that I described in the MyTT thread that I linked at the start of this thread.
