WS QF
Hashimoto 1-3 KM (-6, -7, 4, -5)
G2 37, 67 TO for KM, 77, 711
G3 41, 42, 102, 104, 114
G4 10, 13, 23 dead net for Hashimoto, 34 dead net for Hashimoto, 37, 47, 49, 59, 511

Odo 1-3 WYD (7, -9, -7, -6)
G1 03, 15, 26, 106, 107, 117
G2 79, 99, 911
G3 15, 35, 36, 46, 49, 59, 510, 710, 711 Odo served into the net
G4 02, 22, 24, 34, 35, 45, 47 TO for Odo, 48, 58, 510, 610, 611
WYD has fortunately failed to achieve her Grand Loss on her first try. Odo was and still is the only core JNT player to score a win over WYD since they'd never met before.

Hayata 0-3 CY (-5, -3, -7)
G3 24, 44, 45 TO for Hayata, 55, 56, 66, 610 edge hit for CY, 710, 711
Couldn't even take a game off of arguably the weakest.
CNT: Hayata for LA28!
Has CNT overrated Hayata? What would've happened if CY played 3rd singles?

JTTA/Nakazawa have gotta come up with something for their players versus KM, who is developing into a player even more difficult than SYS and WMY to deal with in certain aspects.

为啥美和打蒯曼这么难?以后看来要把她放蒯曼那了 (Why is it so difficult for Miwa to play Kuai Man? Looks like they'll have to draw her to Kuai Man from now on)

Basically, CXT's game plan is to keep the point going by pushing until a loose ball appears. OTOH, due to the fear/worry of the expedite rule triggering in the back of her mind, Hashimoto is forced to take risks to attack more readily, leading to way more errors.

Sato will suffer the same fate. Just a matter of time.

Hayata met with a highly-motivated CY whereas Odo met with a WYD with notable pent-up frustrations.
In the end, everyone has to beat who is in front of them. You learn the most when you see the CNT girls play an opponent they have been prepped to play. Helps you realize how impressive Miwa was in the WT finals. Also helps you see how well the JNT Nakazawa outsmarted the Chinese by fielding Honoka for 2 when the CNT probably expected her to just play one.

I kinda feel bad for the organizers. They put out 8 livestreams. They come up with a "welcome to Tashkent" song (okay, probably AI). Multiple canera angles. In return, lots of walkovers, some less than motivated players. , and empty stands. Unfortunately, the players look tired after being sandwiched between the China Smash and next week's Champions Montpelier (hope there's no violent protests there).

China’s gut-wrenching loss to Japan in the Asian Championships women’s team final blew the lid off an open secret: a glaring vulnerability against defensive choppers.

After Honoka Hashimoto dismantled two Chinese stars, the spotlight shifted to rising ace Kuai Man—who has dropped six straight matches to choppers over the last ten months and had to be strategically sheltered in the final's lineup. As former national team defensive standout Hou Yingchao bluntly put it: "If you spend every day drilling high-speed topspin rallies, when is the backspin bill getting paid?"

With Japan poised to unleash a devastating two-chopper tandem, there will soon be nowhere left to hide. This defeat was an unforgiving reality check on a powerhouse that neglected its fundamentals.
I am just seeing this. This was a complete misread of what happened in the final in my humble opinion. I really believe that Kuai Man had been prepped to play Honoka and that she wasnt "hiding", they just didn’t expect Honoka to be fielded at #2 and were expecting a repeat of the London final or Asian Games. I believe if they had known Honoka would play #2, they would have changed their line up. BTW, Kuai beat Sato in a tough match, so i am not sure where you are getting your six straight matches stat from. But the point remains, if the JNT select choppers, everyone will prepare.

What happened in G3 and G4??

But it says quite a bit about FYH's psyche when he stomps his feet more than Tomo

To be a bit honest, these events are usually funded by a dicator who just likes TT and wants to put on a spectacle lol....

And now much closer to where he's been as an adult...
I dont know, the recent results show a significant upward progression. All that is left IMHO is one good win vs the 5-10 (the win over Jang notwithstanding). But he is now more top 20 than top 40/50 in my eyes.

KM did her homework. Now are we gonna hear from all those forumers who insisted on 2 choppers for the Olympic team?

Not to mention KM also recently lost to Sato, Hang Ying avd Zhu sibing ( twice )
She definitely has struggled against choppers - one swallow doesn't make a summer. Using choppers in major team events is the way to go for the JNT.

Cunning CNT. Sacrificing the WT and XD as a smokescreen to "condition" the JNT...

Well, I wrote about how they would be picked off one by one just 11 days ago, so no surprise.

Yes , before today's win, Kuai Man did lost to the choppers 6 consecutive times in the last 6 months. She definitely has struggled against the choppers

  • Zhu Sibing (China) | 2026 WTT China Smash (October 2026): In a massive upset in the round of 16, world No. 134 qualifier Zhu Sibing defeated the 4th-seeded Kuai Man 3-2 (5-11, 12-10, 9-11, 11-9, 11-7).
  • Han Ying (Germany) | 2026 WTT Champions Macao (September 2026): Kuai Man fell to the 43-year-old veteran defensive master 2-3 in the round of 32.
  • Zhu Sibing (China) | 2026 WTT Star Contender Ljubljana (June 2026): Kuai Man suffered an earlier 1-3 round-of-16 loss to Zhu, cementing a pattern against her compatriot's defensive style.
  • Honoka Hashimoto (Japan) | ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships (May 2026): During the intense team final between China and Japan, Hashimoto’s modern hybrid chopping dismantled Kuai Man 3-1 in the third rubber.
  • Hitomi Sato (Japan) | 2026 U.S. Grand Smash (Mid-2026): A grueling, 1.5-hour defensive battle that heavily triggered the ITTF's 10-minute expedite rule ended in a loss for Kuai Man.
  • July 2026: Lost 1-2 to 17-year-old up-and-coming chopper Wei Jingming during the Chinese Table Tennis Super League (Dalian Station).

Check the result vs Hitomi Sato at the US Smash. Sometimes relying on AI when you don't watch the matches can result in your joining them in hallucinations.

I support whoever makes the team whether or not that includes Hayata. But currently, she has the 2nd highest ranking in Japan and there's a high probability she will kick off 2027 in that 2nd position. That's the cold hard fact that you don't seem to accept. If Sato or Odo moves into the 2nd spot, I'm perfectly fine with that. It means they've worked hard to outrank Hayata. But beyond that, all of the Japanese women, obviously including Hina, need to up their game to compete with China.
