I support whoever makes the team whether or not that includes Hayata. But currently, she has the 2nd highest ranking in Japan and there's a high probability she will kick off 2027 in that 2nd position. That's the cold hard fact that you don't seem to accept. If Sato or Odo moves into the 2nd spot, I'm perfectly fine with that. It means they've worked hard to outrank Hayata. But beyond that, all of the Japanese women, obviously including Hina, need to up their game to compete with China.
Other than a few people who have extremely strong or personal reasons to be fans of and support the success of apecific players (maybe they want Odo or Nagasaki to qualify over Hayata because those are their favorite players), this is how most regular fans think. For some reason people think it is easy to be as consistent as Hayata has been in remaining at the top. Somehow lots of unnamed players not named Miwa Harimoto are supposedly doing it. And if Hayata falls from thr top, so be it, let her overall performance dictate that. Cherrypicking losses in finals, semi finals and quarter finals to top level opposition who will largely beat anyone they face at similar stages is somehow a strong argument in the minds of many but that is emotional thinking, not evidence-based logic. If this was about picking Miwa vs Hayata, there would be no debate. But when it becomes Hayata against anyone else, everyone begins to forget how well you have to play to get to a stage that the CNT even cares about you and when you do, they forget the resources.

I would be happy to replace Hayata if there were clearly better options. But at this point, people think options even if not clearly better is a brilliant argument. I don't think Mizutani ever beat Ma Long or Zhang Jike. But i could be wrong.

The comment is not a knock on Hashimoto, but it's not a simple thing such as insert 2 choppers equals success. Let the process play out. We'll find out who makes the team a year from now.
You just don't get it. Hashimoto and Sato are for WD and the WD match in XT! There is only 1 singles match in XT and that rests on Harimoto.

As MLin has pointed out recently, doubles events command equal importance now, exactly what I pointed out late last year and you had to argue how Hirano did not have impressive results. Now tell me her WS and WD results in 2026?

Harimoto/Hayata have next to 0% chance of beating WMY/KM. 0:11 in G1 of WD F at Aichi-Nagoya 2026 was a shock to the whole table tennis world as former HKG head coach Chan Kong Wah put it. Once again, he couldn't stop praising Harimoto and had nothing good to say about Hayata and Ito (here and here).

Feel free to argue with the current/former coaches and players to the blue, as I've stressed repeatedly.

We could argue until we're both blue in the face but it just doesn't matter. That is why I say just let the process play out. The selection process is what it is. Let's just look forward to a competitive race.

We may get lucky and Japan may revise their system to match what many here seem to want to give TTD some relief. Until then, we just continue to watch the matches snd enjoy great table tennis.

Check the result vs Hitomi Sato at the US Smash. Sometimes relying on AI when you don't watch the matches can result in your joining them in hallucinations.

My bad, I got it mixed up with The Doha Star Contender 9 months ago where KM lost to Sato. That is still 6 losses to choppers this year for KM.

Okay, but not six straight. Ding Ning lost to Sato a few times as well, and also had relative struggles with choppers throughout her career. But when she played them in big matches, she always won. In any case, let's see how it goes with time, people are always looking for easy solutions to hard problems and sometimes, the best thing is for them is that they never get to see their ideas tested so they can comfortably hold them.

You still want Hayata for LA28? Where are the results to back it? You must be a CNT spy here and not just a Hayata fanboy.

2026
Asian Cup
R16 Hayata 1-3 CY

World Cup
Grp Hayata 1-3 QYX, failed to advance to main draw

WTTC
WT F
Hayata 0-3 SYS
Hayata 0-3 WMY

Asian Games
WT F Hayata 1-3 SYS
WS SF Hayata 1-4 SYS

ATTC
WT F Hayata 0-3 KM
WS QF Hayata 0-3 CY

Hayata has been fully figured out by the chinese team just like Ito and hirano were previously. She can't even beat 2nd string players like chen yi, Km, CXT, WYD. Total waste of time to keep persevering with her.

I am just seeing this. This was a complete misread of what happened in the final in my humble opinion. I really believe that Kuai Man had been prepped to play Honoka and that she wasnt "hiding", they just didn’t expect Honoka to be fielded at #2 and were expecting a repeat of the London final or Asian Games. I believe if they had known Honoka would play #2, they would have changed their line up. BTW, Kuai beat Sato in a tough match, so i am not sure where you are getting your six straight matches stat from. But the point remains, if the JNT select choppers, everyone will prepare.
Like for MT F at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026, they probably went with this lineup based on H2H. Both WYD and CY won in straight games the last time against Hashimoto at CHN GS 2026 and SGP GS 2026, respectively, whereas KM was still expecting her first win over Hashimoto. And like for WTTC 2026, they probably used KM to lure Hashimoto away and limit the potential damage. Given that, even if Nakazawa didn't fall for that again (see his rationale at WTTC 2026 below), their fallback plan was for WYD and CY to get 1 match each off of either Harimoto or Hashimoto, with KM securing the 3rd singles against Hayata. They probably didn't expect CY to end up with 0-6. It was too much to ask of WYD to get the last match after the drain, going from 10:6 to 10:12 in G1.

In much the same way, Nakazawa putting Hayata in 3rd singles limited the potential damage as well and "freeing up" Hashimoto despite those 2 losses turned out to be the right move. Therefore, Hashimoto losing to KM in WS afterward should be treated differently than Hayata and Odo losing to CY and WYD, respectively, because the former had and still has in future matches better odds of pulling an upset despite all finishing in QF. It's asinine not to leverage that potential.

Between a Hayata that's been dissected like Ito, and a Hashimoto that's in the process of being "profiled", who would you pick? Other than Hashimoto, who else is a better choice? Odo just because of those 2 wins over WMY and CY that apparently didn't matter to Nakazawa? And to this day she still has hardly anything to show for WD/WT. Even Hirano, Kihara and Nagasaki did better when it mattered.

(▪️ The gap between us and China is evident in our everyday lives. We must raise the bar to become the world’s best.
I didn’t agonize too much over the lineup against China for the final. Given their roster, I figured there was a high probability that Kuai Man would be placed in the third match. If that were the case, Hashimoto was the one best suited to secure that point. My plan was for either Miwa or Hayata to pick up a win in the early stages, followed by Hashimoto reliably taking the third match to give us the lead.)

It matters to JTTA. They even stated last month they had to decide on the potential doubles pairs to focus on from here on out, so the process is not left to play out on its own.

Why would you retire from a sport if you're 26 years old and #6 in the world? Sounds ridiculous coming from other sports.
