Is it the WTTC ? I heard that the even year will be the singles wttc and the odd year will be the team wttc. Correct me if im wrong.

yeah, the singles world championships are played every other year, with the world team championships are played in between.

I don't think having it every year will really raise the attention that table tennis gets. I mean there are plenty of sports that have world championships every year, but that doesn't really do anything to raise people's awareness of it. We already have an major even that is played every year. The world cup. It is nice to have a distinction between the two. Of the 3 major titles that you can get, world cup is played every year, so its the easiest and least meaningful. Then you have the world championships which is every two, and then the olympics which is every 4.

I don't think it is necessary to cheapen the world championships by making it occur more frequently.

The world champs 'individual' event is only ever second year Dan, step your game up

I don't think it should be every year, every second year allows suspense and for people to follow the results of players over a 2 year period. Plus the world teams every second year is a good chance for nations to back their players!

Sorry to disagree ,but the sport needs more profile,,pro tours are just not prestigeous enough...lack of spectators,poor entrys, sometimes,
I have been to world champs when they had team event and singles,incredible atmospheres..big crowds...big pressure,massive exposure.
Now I can see why they split the events for the players,, they were knackered if they done well in the team event...apart from the chinese as they could rotate their players...

The euro are now every year,are they devalued because of this.. I think not,,,more countries get to host a big,,,"proper" prestigeous event....more tv ,,,,more chance for players to step up to international play...
The ittf changed the game to 11,changed the ball,changed the colours,banned the glue etc etc,,
the least they could do is introduce bigger tourneys and top class ..top class pressure tourneys where everyone turns up to events..
The worlds are east one year west the next so for the individual event, if you want to see boll you ll have to get your ass to rotterdam as he wont be back in europe for 4 years,,,,by then he will be passed his best..
Come on the players deserve this....

Would be more massive if it was here in 2012....olympics and worlds.....come on.....dortmund next year for team event,,,were having a 23 year reunion as we were there in 89 for the changing of the guard sweden 5-china 0....

Actually, there is a table tennis world cup that is held every year. So, I don't think it is necessary for both WTTC individual and team to be held every year. If the schedule is held too frequent, there might be another potential to cause more injury on the player, due to fatigue too.

There is a world cup every year, world table tennis championship singles every two years, world table tennis championship team every two years, and Olympics every four years. Combined with the pro tours and many minor tournaments, I think the year is pretty full with tournaments already.
Maybe table tennis needs more sponsorship.

No, by being every other year, the title becomes lucrative! More special. The teams event is really interesting anyways, and I'm glad we can focus on the two separate events each year.

The world cup is only for the top 16 players,what about the rest of the world,,,the pro tour finals sometimes lack the top players as the ittf stipulates they have to play in 6 or travel to 3 continents,thus devaluing this event...
There needs to be a major rethink,like you said,,many minor tournaments, scrap a couple of these and have the most prestigious...worlds,,,,The worlds are the worlds,,,if you win you are world champion....there is a superbowl every year...play offs etc etc maybe you should have these every 3 years ,,
there is formula 1 every year,wimbledon,us open ,masters,the golf open ,,are these devalued by playing every year,,I just dont get it...
Table tennis is almost if not the biggest participation sport in the world....and you can only play in it every 2 years... its crackers..
