The mod blade makers do actually does have a usefulness, it is something new (back then that is) that wasn't on the market and wasn't tried out except for the most bold and determined players who would risk making that mod themselves. Now this stuff isn't new, it is almost industry standard.
I don't like this way of making a blade as much as the next guy, but I gotta see allowing a TT company making a market and new money. There is only so much money to be made selling the same great blades over and over. There has to be some new product to get more new sales, or the company only makes a steady profit, not the ever-increasing ones stock and bond holders demand.
That is why I like Nexy, President Moon has a totally new and different approach to blade design that is not seen before, not tried out before, and premium. Even if the blades do essentially the same thing - allow you to operate the kind of feeling blade you want and look good winning using it.... even so, the freshness factor is not on the market. many companies are just re-badging the same stuff with minor tweaks and the end product is not a significantly different thing.
Granted, after so many decades, there are only so many possible ways to make a blade and such re-badging is inevitable, but there is still some room for true innovation.
Personally, I cannot STAND hollow handle blades or overly light blades. The solid impact feel is not there and I reject such blades when I try them out.
If I can modify an established classic blade to make it a full 35 (That is THIRTY Freaking FIVE !!!!) grams heavier and still have it play every bit as effective or even more effectively as the stock model, then the company could have successfully made it significantly heavier without losing any performance.
In several years, I think the hollow handle trend will get old pretty quick and blades with heavier weight and a solid handle will play much better with the new Poly Ball that TT Blade Makers will begin to re-introduce their best sellers in a special heavy version with weight in the handle and call it super-premium designed for new ball and make another boatload of cash from it.
