Very normal if there is a serious level difference, most of the guys in Pocket Rocket level are around usatt 2400 and Jarvis is more like USATT 2700. Moreover Jarvis dominates on serve and backhand (quick strike not big looping per se) so if you cannot find your way around this, the matchup is ugly.

Agree to both these points - But probably something a lot of forum people don't realise.

Pocket Rocket, Tom, Dan etc, might look like superstars to *most* people (and they are heroes of our sport!)

But you then have a huge step up to the likes of Jarvis, and then an even bigger step up to the likes of the top 20 pros etc.

The difference is unbelievable.

Quite an upset in the quarters, david mcbeath lost to Larry Trumpauskas a rising young player, looked like a very close game though
Trump has funky serves ans is a lefty, given McBeath's heavy reliance on flicking, I suspect it played a role.

I watched it courtside - Toms level was significantly better in every area of the game. Umair did t get on the board until 7-0 game 2. Tom looks a different player as a result I guess of his living in Germany and greater international exposure.

Does this tournament have any bearing on the ENG MT/WT lineups for WTTC 2026?

Lorestas, Larry's dad, is the lefty. Larry is a righty and has improved dramatically in the last 5 years or so.

I think Dan is about 66, and Tom isn’t on the list (but would maybe be 30-40 ish?)

Someone who knows the scene better than me could comment.

But, from those guys to our very best, is a huge gap.

And then from our very best (Jarvis, Pitchford, Drinkhall), there is STILL, a huge gap to the top of the game.

With how the UK is set up, I’m not sure we’ll ever have a real global contender.
