Based on the posts on this forum, I see a pattern here from various brands: sponsoring famous (and not so famous) retired players.

For example:
1. Zhang Jike --> Donic
2. Ma lin --> Tibhar (switching from Yasaka)
3. Danny Heister, Damien Eloi, and others --> Andro

And don't forget, Donic still sponsors the evergreen Waldner, Persson, and Appelgren.

By sponsoring them, do they still generate strong sale for the equipments??

I think if nothing else these guys travel around and do events where they can promote the brands. For example I remember seeing Rossi in Vegas for joola

I don’t have a problem with these former players switching to different brands when retiring but unless they have used these brands during their playing days and have won events with it why would someone buy it over something else?

Absolutely. Waldner (and also Appelgren) and his local club generates sales. At least in this country (Sweden)...

That's what I figure.... otherwise those brands would not sign any of those players, if they can't generate sales.

By signing ZJK, Donic reminded folks in China they were still in business and judging from the claims of many that they have been "scammed" by his "predatory" and "opportunistic" sales tactics in his live streams, I guess you could call it a (dubious) win for Donic? Until the late 2000s, Waldner was still earning money for Donic as Coppa JO Gold/Silver were still popular but then they fell off the radar after 2015.

OTOH, Tibhar is reinforcing the wave of Felix in China by signing MLin.

I saw a few younger guys buying the Zhang Jike original carbon in China. But it's not like everyone is throwing away their Viscaria to get one 😂
I think foreign brands must have a hard time in China besides Japanese and Stiga.
I'm think I saw people use more tibhar shoes than rubbers and blades combined and I am not sure those tibhar shoes are original to begin with at least I never see them in tibhar catalogue.

Yeah, could be but I'm always suspicious when I see tibhar or joola shoes with Mizuno wave medal or lezoline copy soles. Other brands too, don't wanna pick on tibhar.

it's not a new pattern, butterfly has still Korbel, Maze, Primorac blades, they're bestsellers on 3rd world countries so they keep at it

Korbel, Maze and Primorac have been with Butterfly since their playing days. So after retirement, it is natural that BYTY keeps them as they still generate good sales. So does Donic with Waldner, Persson and Appelgren.

What I previously questioned was Zhang Jike and Ma Lin (for example) who have never been with Donic and Tibhar (and years over their playing days) and are now newly sponsored.
