Yes, I used a Viscaria for a couple months before the FZD. It's limited sample size so I can't really say if it's the difference between the Viscaria or the FZD, but they play surprisingly differently, almost as much of a difference as between say the W968 and the Q968. Both mine are ~89...

That was when I first started practicing the BH loop vs backspin, I've gone through many iterations of technique changes and while it's become much better in games it really doesn't look much better. I actually forgot to mention, but that circle thing was something the coach pointed out as well...

Realistically, I don't think anyone actually ever uses the full shuffle step in real matches. It's was more of an exercise for me. I was definitely out of breath and had to take multiple breaks, and I still wasn't able to complete the full 200!

For group training we had I think maybe 16-18 people. I'm definitely super motivated, it's $55 for 90 mins of group training, and $90 for an hour of 1-on-1. In matches nothing is gonna be the same, the coach actually mentioned something like that too. He was like you can try to copy Ma Long's...

So I had my first group training session on Monday, and today had a coaching session, which was the 2nd time I trained with a professional coach, and the first one who actually taught me anything! My gosh, I've learned so much in the past two days, I feel like I need at least 6 months to digest...
  6. How would you define a Pro?

Income doesn't have to be salary, there are many professions where folks aren't salaried. Making income through sponsorship counts, as do tournament prizes of course. IMO a pro TT player can be considered a pro as long as their income is related to their playing. I don't see how that's a grey...
  7. How would you define a Pro?

Then they're not pros. They are, presumably, still alive. If TT isn't paying the bills for them to stay alive, then what is? Whatever that is, that is what their profession is, not TT.
  8. How would you define a Pro?

Right, I thought it'd be pretty obvious. Pro is short for professional, which is someone who does something as his profession. If TT is how you feed yourself and put clothes on your back, then you're a pro.
  9. Feedback on my League games

You're looking better each week! Wolfgang is a tough nut to crack, glad to see you overcoming him! Your opening up on both sides is getting better, just need to learn a more hitting stroke against those pop up backspins. It's tough to brush loop backspins that aren't below net height unless...
  10. All Club Level Players need to know the stuff in this video

Well, that depends on what you play the game for. It's like life itself, people have different goals. A point may not be a point for the same reason a dollar may not be a dollar. Most people have a limit as to what they're willing to do to make a buck after all. Of course, if people get mad...

Yes, I've found the same re: hooking the ball, but the issue I have right now is that I'm having trouble moving up to meet the ball as it swerves to the side. Without moving up I would have to reach my arm out more and then I'd have trouble hooking the ball. It's again within the broad...

Perhaps what really matters is simply to narrow the focus so that we stop thinking about the score or the setting?
  13. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I see, losing to the same people he'd normally beat is definitely a mental issue. Ironically I feel like my focus on my own technique is helpful in this regard. There's no mental space to worry about other things. The point about different levels of application of a skill is very right. I...

Do you think it's more the setting of the matches (club vs tournament) or just playing unfamiliar players? For example, I tend to do very poorly against unfamiliar player, and it doesn't really matter if it's in a tournament or club or practice setting. I have some ideas on why that is. For...

So my training partner recorded a few points of my match earlier this week against this 21-2200 player. Last time I played against him he was using SP on his BH, and I did alright. He's now using some sort of medium pips that act kind of like anti. Every ball coming back had was kinda dead and I...
  16. Help me identify old 2016 HL5 commercial or "national"

Right, the oldest one feels very different and has numbers on the handle. Here's my 2014 HL5.

So I finally made the full time switch to the Q968 on Monday, had a practice session that day, and felt comfortable with the FH and BH loops. Played in league today in table 1, did about as well as can be expected with a new setup. So the good part is that while I knew the FH drive was gonna...
  18. [WRM] The "breaking" backhand and other types of topspin backhands

Interesting! A clubmates brought a chopping setup the other day and I tried chopping with it and I found the same thing! I tried chopping up and down, or back to front, and the ball would either flow very high or go out, but once I started chopping with a bit more of a left to right motion (BH...
  19. W968 question

A little too soft IMO. The W968 is a fairly hard blade to activate, and ideally you don't want rubbers that activate before the blade. D09c also activates a bit early, but a better match than D05. H3 is really the best match.
  20. W968 National Question

How new are we talking about? I have a 2014 HL5 that plays almost like an all wood blade. Switching to the 2022 W968 a couple years ago was actually harder than switching from the YSE to the old HL5, and I think even a bit harder than switching from the W968 to the Viscaria. I think in the...
