  1. Pros and Cons of Tacky Rubber?

With the tacky rubbers I would agree with Tango K, you have to make sure you play with spin, even when driving a ball, you must make sure have enough brush or bite when driving through the ball. i find that when playing a harder hit driven ball with a tacky rubber if I don’t brush enough / don’t...
  2. New Setup

Hi Jamie, Any footage of you playing, always a great help for those interested in making suggestions. Gives a much better insight to the sort of level you play at!!
  3. H3N 37 Degrees

Der’s alter ego, or childhood invisible friend??? In heavy stealth mode!!!!!! counter espionage James Bond type operates in the shadows and refuses to step into the light of TTD!!!!!!!🤣
  4. D09c vs H3Neo vs Rakza Z

that's fine, I had the understanding that BTY and DHS both use shore A scale, perhaps not!! There's multiple factors how rubbers feel and play, not just the sponge hardness, so its only a guide, non specific really.
  5. D09c vs H3Neo vs Rakza Z

Butterfly 44 degree (Shore A scale) = about 56 degrees ESN (Shore O scale) So Rakza Z EH is more comparable to D09C as far as hardness is concerned, see Yogi's review of Rakza Z rubbers.
  6. Do You Use Tacky or Non-Tacky?

I haven't used all the DHS rubbers!!! but have tried a few of them. those used - H3 (commercial) H3 (national blue sponge) H3 Neo H3 Neo (provincial) H8 (hard) H8-80 Skyline 3 (provincial blue sponge) For tackiness my personal appraisal would be - (most tacky 1st) bear in mind batches of...
  7. How Ma long can get any spin with his serves with this motion?

The description MH uses, 3 main spins with one action for a pendulum serve, also can be applied to the reverse pendulum serve (as the name suggests!!!) and also for a BH serve. TRICKY and SNEAKY !!!!! gets your opponent 🤔 Ma Long is considered by many to have the best 'set up' serve out there.
  8. How Ma long can get any spin with his serves with this motion?

Ghost serve - For me, is very difficult to execute with a high percentage of reliability, this is not a serve I use during match play!!!! even after a year + I would say that reliability wise, its maybe , on a good day, 60% success rate, on a bad day 20% during serve practice !!! To clarify...
  9. Calling all EJ’s !!! List the equipment tried over the last 2yrs

The Acoustic is a great blade, but like yourself I felt that tension rubbers maybe better suited to it, hybrids play well also. Could be that my technique is more of an issue, but it didn't feel as nice as a Primorac all wood. Personal judgements as always!!! I'll have to up date as well with...
  10. Question about Hybrid Rubbers

D09C is a good hybrid rubber!!! 'the best' maybe not!!! It depends on how you evaluate 'best' As with all equipment what's 'best' for a person, is not necessarily the 'best' equipment !!!!!
  11. Pushing

There are a few different types of push. There is a good video by Tom Lodziak with Mark Mitchell, (who pingpongpaddy mentioned) 'footwork and recovery for short balls' is one and there is another where Mark demonstrates 3 basic push strokes, light back spin/no spin, back spin, heavy back spin...
  12. Do You Use Tacky or Non-Tacky?

A mix of tacky top sheet (usually not as tacky) and a harder bouncy sponge, traditional 'Tacky' rubbers have a hard sponge that are not as bouncy as a BTY spring sponge or a Tensor type ESN sponge. A traditional 'Chinese tacky' rubber would feel 'Dead' to those use to playing with a grippy...
  13. should I buy a duplicate blade or a different blade for backup

Buy both!!! you’ll have your back up, and another to have some fun with!!
  14. Nexy Etika review

Cheers Der, When I wrote the post I was wondering if it could have been a technical improvement that had helped out with being able to play with a harder sponge. My consistency has definitely improved over the last year, so I may be in a position to try a grippy top sheet with harder sponge...
  15. Tackiness versus grippiness

Some of the glossy tables can mess with your head!!!! The table I have at home is pretty grippy, so when I try and practice ghost or heavy back spin serves, the ball holds up nicely then spins back into the net, the tables at the club I train at, still have some grip, but it’s less than my home...
  16. Nexy Etika review

Hi Der, like you used be, I get real twitchy when using a grippy top sheet with a harder 50+ degree sponge, notably the R53, R48 was much more ‘friendly’ tacky with harder sponges I can cope with. the R53 does have a softer feeling than you’d expect, but I had to be way more precise with my...
  17. Tackiness versus grippiness

Yeah, the tables with higher friction attributes cause the ball to react more on impact but reduce the amount of spin remaining on the ball after impact with the table. The ‘slippery’ tables when the ball can ‘skid’ through don’t remove as much spin from the ball, so you have more residual spin...
  18. Tackiness versus grippiness

There’s a study Brokenball posted, you can also find it on the ITTF website, it was about dwell time, etc. the study was Undertaken by a French institute for ITTF, they also did a study regarding bounce from tables. The report showed that grippy Euro / Jap rubbers can produce more spin. However...
  19. How Ma long can get any spin with his serves with this motion?

I would agree that the serve in #1 clip is likely to be a no spin, or could even have a little top spin. It looks like he ‘pats’ the ball forward. if you hold your bat at a 45 degree angle, for a push and toss a ball and just let it land on the bat, without moving the bat, the ball will move...
