  1. Blade for absolute starter

I think this would be OK for the average adult (or even kid) who is playing the game for fun, and improving through playing more often, rather than coaching. For a junior who is improving quickly through coaching through, I think this would be a mistake. The way I see it (which I appreciate is...
  2. Trick Flick

That's a nice little trick. Although most people are taught to look at the opponents bat as soon as they've hit the ball, so what you do with your eyes and body aren't that important. Would love to see it work in a match!
  3. Blade for absolute starter

I would guess that 90% of the UK table tennis population aren't comfortable changing their own rubbers. Almost 100% wouldn't do it in the lower divisions, and only the mid/top divisions would be doing this (even then, not THAT many people would).
  4. Blade for absolute starter

It's very possible. Perhaps I'll try that with my daughter in 2 years time and I'll come back and compare the results! ;)
  5. Blade for absolute starter

It almost goes hand in hand with the other thread started by Der_Echte. If Kid A started with a Viscaria and T05/H3 - They would really struggle to control it, and it would be very hard to learn the strokes properly. Kid B starts with a very slow set up, and manages to learn the basics well...
  6. Blade for absolute starter

I think this comes down to opinion on what the equipment does/doesn't do for the new starter. In my experience (and all I can go by is my experience, and the experience of other "starter" coaches), even something like Sriver right at the start can be too much. Perhaps it would be OK for an...
  7. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Yeah, I did it because I like to see the technique, and thought others would enjoy it as well. TT shots are so fast, that an epic point can be over before you've even had a chance to see what happens. On reflection, I did it a bit too much at the start (from about 2 minutes, it all runs...
  8. Blade for absolute starter

I think we must all have slightly different opinions on what a "new starter" is. Firstly - There is no such thing as a "serious" starter - No one knows if they will enjoy it, or stick with it (or even have the hand eye co ordination to do well). My son is a prime example of that - I know he'll...
  9. Butterfly Harimoto Innerforce ALC Blade - April 2019

I'm sure there are in the top 100 - I don't follow it closely enough to know. The top 20/30 seem predominantly ALC based (on the whole). I guess I'm just surprised more haven't made the switch - Unless it simply doesn't suit their game (which must be frustrating for Butterfly, as they'll no...
  10. Blade for absolute starter

Again, this is purely my opinion (and many others I've spoken to who coach new starters), but the misconception seems to be that the OP is doing his mate a favour by giving him the old, worn rubbers. No idea what thickness they are, but if they are 2.1mm, they'll instantly be a hindrance, not a...
  11. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I knew my overuse of the slow mo would come in handy :D
  12. Blade for absolute starter

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and even when you ask the "experts", they do things differently (as we established with China/Europe/Korea all recommending different things for their starters). But if you don't mind me asking, do you have much experience with coaching juniors or new...
  13. Blade for absolute starter

I think the range of answers here goes hand in hand with Der_Echtes thread about equipment recently (what the Chinese do vs the Koreans vs the Europeans etc). Certainly in the UK, if a kid went for the first time to any table tennis class, they'd be handed a pre made bat which offered little...
  14. Butterfly Harimoto Innerforce ALC Blade - April 2019

Yeah, I think I will. I've already got a spare sheet of T05 and T05H so that's helpful!
  15. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

My 2 cents...... If you imagine the stroke to be like a clock face. Your typical bog standard forehand stroke would start at 4 o clock (with your backswing), and go through to between 9 and 10 o clock (a soft upwards motion, but predominantly forwards). A forehand loop against backspin would...
  16. Blade for absolute starter

This is where the EJ takes over, and loses all sense of the situation. A £10 will be absolutely fine for a beginner - As in, never picked up a bat before type beginner. Starting someone on a 5 ply blade with Mark V is absurd. Beginners need to learn the strokes properly, with as little...
  17. Butterfly Harimoto Innerforce ALC Blade - April 2019

According to the Butterfly catalogue, the handle is the standard length width and height (the same as the TB ALC), but also the same as the existing Innerforce. Although the handle looks a little more rounded, similar to the Garaydia series (which I love). The UK suppliers aren’t getting it...
  18. Blade for absolute starter

If he’s completely new, I’d get a pre made Stiga or Butterfly bat to start him off. I wouldn’t even look at a custom set up for a few months until he learns the basics.
  19. 2019 Portugal Open Feb 13-17

This is quite a fun article for anyone interested in Rumgay: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/scotland/45466852
  20. Tenergy 05 and Tenergy 05 HARD VS Rakza X

I think T05Hard would be better for Lula than T64. I prefer blocking with T05H, and I find it more responsive to punch (whilst still giving you the ability to spin it up and loop away from the table). T64 seems to be a dying rubber from what I can tell.
