  1. Is there a way to save this blade after a “minor” accident?

I would just sand it a little and maybe put a bit of sealant on it if you have it and then just continue to play with it.
  2. How to remove handles from a blade?

    Using steam might also work
  3. Interesting NY times article about former olympian

  4. How does one get good at RPB

I think the reason that xu xin and some other old penhold players took so long to improve the rbp is that they started with tpb. Tpb is almost the opposite motion than rpb. The narrative was always it takes long to develop a good rpb but lebrun had a world class backhand at age 15, I think it...
  5. Dignics09c China team version

Is it different or just expensive merchandise?
  6. New racket too thick for rpb?

Definitely Sand the blade. Also depending on the hand size a smaller round handle like for example the sanwei fextra might be easier on the hand than a bigger more square handle. I have the YSE penhold too and first it hurt too but I sanded it quite a bit on both the wing and also some on the...
  7. Why won't my racket stay closed?

Do you hit the ball with the blade kinda vertical and close to your body? When you swing like that simple geomtry means the bat will kinda come "from below" and thus open up. If you swing farther away with the bat more horizontal it is easier to keep a constant angle while closer you need to...
  8. Can you help me understand how it is possible to join the main league of the country in which a person lives?

When you can play you don't have to wait. Just show up in practice and when you are really good they will let you play with the good guys. It only takes 10 seconds to notice a good player. But when you struggle to beat an overweight 60 year old pusher then they won't let you play with the good...
  9. Can you help me understand how it is possible to join the main league of the country in which a person lives?

That is the frustrating thing when you are an adult beginner who is a reasonable athlete - beating a pusher/chopper/blocker with offense takes some experience and practice because you need to hit 2-3 consecutive loops on the table to win a point. That means if you hit 3 out of 4 loops on the...
  10. Can you help me understand how it is possible to join the main league of the country in which a person lives?

In short: you can't just play in a pro league, you need to show you can beat several lower leagues first. If you want to improve faster you could take private coaching lessons with a good coach but even then you will need to demonstrate it in league matches, nobody cares how good you are in...
  11. Can you help me understand how it is possible to join the main league of the country in which a person lives?

If you want to play at a better level you might need to drive to the next largest city to find a better club. Larger cities will usually have several clubs who have higher level teams. However even if you play in such a club they will have different level teams from pure recreational to...
  12. Expensive table tennis blades.. why not?

I think both sides have a good points. You can have a good setup for like 100 bucks (blade +2 rubbers) and going expensive won't make you a much better player but even if you spend 200 bucks for a blade that you use 5 years (40 bucks per year) and 200 bucks on rubbers per year that is still...
  13. Which Chinese players would have the highest peak ELO rating all time?

Good point. I have always wondered why penhold players of the 70s and 80s didn't develop RPB, but they probably just didn't need it as they could dominate with serve and forehand. Maybe developing a RBP even would have made them weaker if they had relied on RPB instead of stepping around and...
  14. Which Chinese players would have the highest peak ELO rating all time?

Would WLQ be competitive now with his bad backhand though? His forehand was insane but his BH was kinda weak, almost like a penhold player playing SH. Ma Lin might have a similar issue, he had a RBP but it wasn't great. Love WLQ and Ma Lin but not sure such a forehand dominant game would work...

  16. Finger placement penhold

I do it like this Here is dang
  17. Finger placement penhold

I think the big issue with straight fingers is that you cover a large area of the backhand rubber with your fingers so you only have a small area to hit the ball.
  18. Any top level Pro using all wood blade?

I have read that for Looping a slower blade and faster rubber is better than vice versa. Of course pros are not using really slow blades, even those inner blades aren't slow but I could see blades getting a little slower when even faster rubbers are available.
  19. Any top level Pro using all wood blade?

I think they would develop even faster rubbers then. I think this is already happening. When speed glue was banned in the early 2010s many players went to super fast rackets like schlager carbon or primorac carbon but now many players are going to slightly slower inner carbon blades because the...
  20. The future of chopping

I don't think we will see another chopper international medal winner but I do think we will continue to see 2,3 or 4 choppers in the world top100 because it is harder to compete as a chopper but today's young attack players also have less experience against choppers. The first couple times a...
