  2. What instead of Primorac JP -OFF - OSP/Nittaku?

Here are some comparisons between 5-ply blades. They include the Korbel and the Acoustic. It's hard to find objective measures for blades, and it's worth questioning if whether these comparisons are applicable since the characteristics of individual blades might vary greatly between blades of...
  3. Developing player with some potential :)

Thanks for you input in this thread (and throughout the forum for that matter). Given that I'm about 30 sessions deep in 1 hour coaching sessions, and am still correcting my form, is it too early to worry that my coach is putting aside my match play ability for the future? I'm still refining...
  4. Advice for new Nittaku blade

If you go for the Acoustic be aware that the original model has a handle that some find too thin and small. Nittaku made an "LG" version with a larger handle. Some think this is too chunky. They eventually released an "SG" version which is somewhere in between. Try to get the various version in...
  5. Developing player with some potential :)

This is a pretty interesting concept. Experts often forget (at least consciously) the details of what they once learned since their knowledge has become ingrained and automatic, especially when technique has become muscle memory. I saw a concise description of this phenomenon recently in this...
  6. Yinhe Mercury 2 vs 9000E

That's interesting to hear that there are rubbers that are much better for beginners than Mercury 2 because I assumed it was a good beginner rubber. I'm having trouble generating good spin and higher arc with Mercury 2 so maybe there's a better rubber for that? I thought that boosting the...
  7. Developing player with some potential :)

Just wanted to chime in and thank everyone here that has contributed their thoughts in this thread. I've read over 1000 posts about random TT topics since getting into the sport about 5 months ago and this is by far the most helpful and insightful thing I've ever come across. Before TT my...
  8. Yinhe Mercury 2 vs 9000E

I've been using Mercury 2 on my FH as a beginner (about 3 months worth of coaching and 1 month of random hitting/playing) and I plan on sticking with it for the rest of the year. I was planning on switching to Jupiter 2 after that but noticed that those are disappearing on Aliexpress and...
  9. Acoustic 82g vs 90g?

I'm in the same boat as you. My Acoustic is only 78g. I've considered buying lead tape to stick on the blade. For now, I'll just enjoy having a light setup while still a beginner. At the very least I won't ever have to worry about using heavy rubbers.
  10. Developing player with some potential :)

Hey a bit off topic but what do you use to edit your videos to cut out the downtime in between points? I'm currently filming practice matches to improve and I'd like to edit my videos similar to how yours are edited. Thanks!
  11. Moon Speed 53 just came out on Aliexpress

I already have normal Moon on my backhand and have already bought both regular Moon Speed and Moon 12 Blue to try. So I'm resisting the urge to get this one too. For my fellow Moon users, which Moon would be the next logical step for my BH as a beginner?
  12. Developing player with some potential :)

I ended up making the opposite decision and slowed down my blade with Chinese rubber a few months into my training (had Fastarc rubber on it before). For me it wasn't about winning since I am training technique more than playing games. It more about excellence as well but from a different angle...
  13. Developing player with some potential :)

I wonder if the young age of the players starting with fast setups is a significant factor here. It's well understood that aging results in loss of nerve sensitivity and signalling speed. Cutaneous sensation in the hands also decreases by age...
  14. Nittaku Acoustic handle size

There's also a handle in between the regular and LG called the "SG" so you actually have three options. If there's any way to get one in your hands before you buy then try it out first. The regular handle seems a bit thin to me so I put a layer of Nittaku grip tape on it and it feels better...
  15. Looking for a blade with control and touch

Nittaku Acoustic and Nittaku Violin. There are different options for handle sizes so see if you can handle one before you buy. They are both pricey blades but very high quality. There was a poll recently here about what blade to choose for developing offensive player and Acoustic came out on...
  16. Weight training in the gym to improve explosiveness

I respectfully disagree. 'Explosiveness' is merely just the production of force (i.e. strength) applied in a short period of time. Thus: force production / time. Part of this is equation minimizing the time of force production. So things like box jumps, sprints, plyometrics will improve muscle...
  17. Weight training in the gym to improve explosiveness

Most of the gains achieved by untrained individuals within the first few months of training appear to be caused by neuromuscular adaptations. You are training your body to effectively recruit and use your existing muscle tissue. There will be some muscle hypertrophy but the effect of that is...

  19. Andro All-wood Blades

Here's one user that recently bought a Timber 5 ALL: https://www.tabletennisdaily.com/forum/topics/easy-to-use-tensor-rubbers.28138/post-393893
  20. Mizuno shoes

I have the same problem with Wave Kaiserburgs. Went maybe half a size too big from my usual and there is way too much space in toebox despite having put in an extra insole and heel inserts.
