  1. Need help with this new DHS Blade

I will be the third person to say Battle II (or III) on the forehand and C-1 on the backhand. Rhyzen ICE is Joola's version of beginner's rubber. I think it will be too slow for you. As for, if you like C-1 on the backhand side, there are rubbers that are more catapulty if you want to upgrade...
  2. How do you defend against smashes?

A few things: 1) attack first so you don't have to defend. 2) read the spin better because it sounds like you pop the ball up so the other person can smash it. 3) You can lob with your backhand as a Jpen player. I am going way back to the 1980's and 1990's. Yoo Nam-kyu was a Jpen player from...
  3. Correct Technique for Arm on Forehand Topspin

I agree with you and agree with @blahness My coach had his own method. I have done some adult beginner training in the univ years. I ran the university clubs back then so I had to teach adult beginners (i.e. univ students) and some of them stole the club balls that I had to find university...
  4. What butterfly blade should i get?

According to USATT 2200 level God, golden Vis. According to Gozo, Dark Speed 90. According to me, neither. Lol :)
  5. Correct Technique for Arm on Forehand Topspin

Looks good! For adult players who want to learn how to loop topspin, my recommendation has always been the same. Start with moving at the elbow, meaning to use the forearm to loop and brush the ball. Once they know how to brush, then add waist rotation. Once they master the forearm and the waist...
  6. Dignics 80 vs Hurricane 3 Neo Provincial

Lol, maybe I will stick D05 on one of my blades and try it on my backhand. But that might be a project for a month down the road! I will heed your advice about D80 at some point as well. Thanks again!
  7. What Glue should I use?

I use pretty much Butterfly Free Chack Pro II exclusively now. It dries very fast so you need to make sure you spread out the glue pretty quickly. After 20 minutes or so, I can apply another layer. The rubbers stick on pretty well (not perfect, but better than other glues I have used).
  8. Dignics 80 vs Hurricane 3 Neo Provincial

Very helpful! thanks! I have D05 lying around somewhere. I don't have any D80. Right now I am still having some fun with soft ESN rubber (like 42-45 degree) on the BH side. When it is time to upgrade, I will keep D80 in mind along with D05.
  9. Thick sponge or thin sponge for people starting out?

It depends. do you have a coach or not? If you have a coach, you can get whatever thickness you want. if you don't have coach, I would recommend 2.0mm for most players. Too thin, you might not learn how to loop and engage the sponge properly when learning top spin loops. If players want to...
  10. What butterfly blade should i get?

No, your rating should go up to 2400 USATT once you get Golden Vis. If you don't get to that level, well, you are simply not talented enough :)
  11. Is this rubber too damaged to reglue?

I would glue it back on. It looks fine with me. I have that problem with some ESN rubbers: Yasaka series, Xiom Vega series, Donic BlueFire series and Fastarc C-1. When you do not do a good enough glue job and try to take the glue off, there are little holes everywhere. If it looks ok, I just...
  12. My feel and thoughts on the balls since 2013

Agree. Nittaku balls just feel "more solid." I don't know what else to describe it. The worst 40mm ball I have played with so far is Butterfly. Their fist or second generation plastic balls were horrible. The balls had this glossy feel to it straight out of the box (like a Nittaku ball that...
  13. The V-Grip

Yes sometimes sport is about enjoyment. So do whatever you feel comfortable with and have some fun!
  14. Looking for a short pips rubber for forehand

A clubmate of mine said that pink is the spinniest and purple was the fastest? Personally, the difference is probably too subtle for me to tell. And I did not EJ the other colors since I made the decision to go back to inverted. I have noticed TT11 has stopped carrying Spinfire which is a...
  15. Looking for a short pips rubber for forehand

When I experimented with short pips on my backhand, I tried both Spinfire and 802-40. Spinfire is indeed much faster than 802-40. Plus Spinfire comes in various interesting colors (I still have one sheet of purple and one sheet of pink Spinfire on two of my spare blades)! Spinfire plays very...
  16. The V-Grip

I don't think V-grip is anything new. I have heard about it more than 10+ years ago. If you want to try V-grip, why not?
  17. Nittaku Acoustic blade for sale

Sorry to chime in. For 40 pounds, can't you just sell it someone at the club? It will make it much simpler for you.
  18. What butterfly blade should i get?

Oh if you have a coach, get golden Viscaria!!! Ok just kidding. Yes wood blade with hurricane forehand and Rozena backhand would be a great set-up for you. :)
  19. Which Hurricane 3 version?

@Heming Hu stated that the Neo version does have some extra factory boosting. Some other forum members believe that the Neo version does not confer any factory boosting; instead the Neo version is just regular version with an extra layer of glue already applied to the sponge. So it is up to...
  20. Which Hurricane 3 version?

I apologize if I did not make my point more clear. Let us say, on a scale of 0 to 10, with 10 being very very tacky. The previous version of Hurricane 3 is like 13 out of 10 in terms of tackiness when it is straight out of the box. Then once you play with it for a few hours (I have even heard...
