The first thing is the use of the forearm/elbow, it is extremely limited, you should leverage it a bit more to get more power/speed with a whipping motion - you are locking too much of your speed to your shoulder. Quality of contact and use of the lower body are also important to generate more...

The level in the video is a good level, not many players below a certain level can loop with such control and consistency and many players even at that level and above sometimes refuse to do it. There really is little point in criticizing a video like that, any changes would require an...
  3. Downgrade blade back to all-wood?

It's best not described as a mental block though it is clearly a mental and personal thing. In something like table tennis, you cannot ignore the importance of feeling in control. You also can't ignore the problems with changing behaviors that you might built up over decades of practice...

@Wrighty67, what DerEchte is saying about the use of your upper arm is what I mean when I say you should improve and maintain your squat ‐ leaning forwaed mighr also help a bit. This will improve your swing and engage your upper arm less since you won't be dropping the paddle as much. At a...
  5. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Tough weekend. Played TX State Champs. 4 events (over 30, over 40, u2000 and u2200). Got 3rd place in over 30 and over 40, got eliminated in U2200 and U2000 by a training partner who had never beaten me prior to eliminating me in those events (I beat him in the 040 quarters before he beat me...

The pancake is the foundation of a wrist focused loop, the circle traced by the swing is smaller in a wrist focused loop and is larger in an elbow focused loop and still larger in a shoulder focused loop. These descriptions do not mean that the hips are not engaged in all three of these. The...

Start with your paddle open and hit the backspin ball by supination the forearm a little (turning the racket over from open to somewhat closed by hitting the ball - Ti Long haa a good video of this for the forehand not sure whetherhe has an analogous one for the backhand). Do it to hard and you...

Looks good. I wish someone would feed you multiball because I don't have an idea of how much spin is on that ball but all that said, it isn't quite how I would approach it. The twist doesn't have to be as obvious. The most important thing is the squat to get your paddle lower but you don't...
  9. Saudi Smash 2024

Seriously, I am asking why ECL, a club championship in Europe and the ETTU"s ability to handle and reschedule it, is being compared to JTTA, CTTA etc. being able to reschedule events and asking whether Asia has an equivalent inter‐club competition that it is managing the schedule of relative to...

I will let you and Tony complete this new tangent until you show relevance to my original point. In the infamous words of the Sharks, thanks, but I'm out.
  11. Saudi Smash 2024

Okay. I guess everyone can decide for themselves if they are willing to wade through the links whether it is normal for an athlete to get punished for the failure of a nation to send a national team. Not holding my breath here.
  12. Saudi Smash 2024

Rather than spam, can you please cite what you find specifically relevant to this discussion that shows where a player is fined for not attending a national event as opposed to the country being fined for not fielding a team and the professional association that justifies it? I really don't...
  13. World Cup 2024

Because you haven't been following the discussion. It is a bit much to read in isolation to one post and then pretend that someone who has been involved in the conversation and has exchanged ideas over many posts can't interpret it differently. It is okay to read it differently but arguing...
  14. Saudi Smash 2024

We can agree to disagree, I know of no situation in team sports where a country fails to send players and the penalty is addressed to the player ans not the country for failure to participate. This is the kind of thing that Quadri is speaking about when he talks of racism. Taking approaches...
  15. Saudi Smash 2024

You didn't mention ATTU in your original post, you mentioned various Asian national associations vs the ETTU. That was my point. Even accepting your change of focus, ATTU has no analogous event to the ECL so again, these are apples to oranges comparisons but you persist in making them for...

Not sold on cleaning the rubber that frequently. Leaving the protector sheets on for a long time on clean rubber tenda to bring out the tackiness. I don't boost so I don't need it and the one time I increased the tackiness. It was a pain to play with so I juat stopped doing it.
  17. Saudi Smash 2024

You mean there is an Asian club champions league? Or that the ETTU is now a country org and not a continental organization and your analogy is perfect? Seriously?
  18. Saudi Smash 2024

Are all those players paying out of pocket or funded by their national teams to attend these events? It is of interest to know who is funding what when doing these apples to oranges comparisons. Remember that for Busan, the punishment being applied to Quadri should technically be applied to...
  19. Harimoto: In terms of table tennis, I prefer ZJK to ML. ML is amazing but it is simply the result of working and playing diligently.

For those particular matches, he lost, no doubt. But there were a lot of other matches that made that claim a bit dubious as an overall report of their relative statuses. Language obscures a lot of things. But head to head, I would argue that Wang Hao's backhand advantages, especially with...
  20. Harimoto: In terms of table tennis, I prefer ZJK to ML. ML is amazing but it is simply the result of working and playing diligently.

I think so, matchups over time vs form in specific matches is a tricky subject. Definitely experience could be the primary reason one is better but it could also just be skills or strategy.
