  1. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Good to hear from you. I guess if it happened to you, you would be clueless as to why it happened. The issue is not whether it happened or not to Archo (something probably happened, it may not have been this). The issue is that whatever phenomenon we discuss on this web board often just...
  2. China Super League 2016 (CTTSL)

So you think the players are the only ones who have brains? Did you watch the matches? Jingkun was basically killing Ma Long's serve in the last 2 games.

As promised, here is the video. Still need to improve my consistency and control of the variations but it gives you an idea of what is possible for deception.

Yeah. I am the idiot for buying those blades.

Whenever claims that the opponent's inferior quality of play is making them lose without accepting responsibility for their inferior ability to adjust, they make themselves look bad.
  7. What's your 2017 Table Tennis New Year's Resolutions?

To stick with the same rubbers and possibly the same blades for the whole year.

One way I adjust is to serve backspin very close to the handle while turning so it isn't as easy to block myself. Also is deceptive with a vertical finish.

Yes, it is a great sign. The brain corrects for it eventually.

Don't be worried - there are different punch serves and what you are doing with the turning action is a legit one. The whip action on all serves to create high level spin is the same though and that is what you combine with the turning motion. Watch William Henzell's bottle turning exercise...

That is what I hate about playing good players. Never recycle your tricks back to back and even if you ever recycle them, you aren't going to get the same result every time unless you are just really lucky and you have found some amazing gap from their childhood.

What Carl is telling you is a couple of things - first of all, it isn't always the absolute spin that matters, but the amount of spin generated relative to the appearance of what the motion is capable of generating. Do I really have the heaviest backspin serve in PA? Maybe not, but when you...

IT's become one of my highest scoring serves and I have four versions of it, 2 for backspin, two for topspin/sidespin, inspired by a combination of all the three servers in the app. I might post some of video sometime to show my current status of it. The turning looks good but I can't always...
  15. Kim Jung Hoon covers basic FH stroke fundamentals - Intro

If you have video of your swing or the swing of someone that demonstrates what you are talking about, please post it. He is hitting the ball with good power where his body is rotating. How you backswing might affect that for you. But we have video of him. We just have words from you. Maybe...
  16. Kim Jung Hoon covers basic FH stroke fundamentals - Intro

It is nice to discuss technique, but it is also nice to know the level of the player who you are discussing technique of. I remember someone looking at a video of Xu Xin's forehand and saying that Xu Xin was taking the ball too late. At which point, I said that this is essentially the best...
  17. Kim Jung Hoon covers basic FH stroke fundamentals - Intro

This guy was world top 50 in his prime and had wins over people like Ovtcharov and Zhang Chao. Whatever you think of his technique, he is a (former) pro who enjoys coaching and making amateurs play better. IT's worth just listening to such people and noting any disagreements as not being about...
  18. Which physical exercises are the best for table tennis improvement?

Sure, Carl. When someone asks what blade to use, you often ask questions or make comments that try to discern what they are talking about. I could have asked the OP what level he plays at etc. And of course, there is a benefit from being fitter in table tennis or life in general. But like I...
  19. Which physical exercises are the best for table tennis improvement?

I have never run or done an agility drill or even a core drill in the last 4 years ever since my arthritis got worse. The most athletic things I have done are the pivot and the cross step and various multiball drills and TT rallies. Yet I have improved more than many players who spend more...
