  1. Kuwait Open 2016

I was so happy at 10-4 that I am depressed at 10-12. Samsonov put something in the water with the way he played in the 4th game against Ma Long. He showed the template and everyone followed it. But no one has the fitness or temperament to fully execute it.

  5. Kuwait Open 2016

This is the best I have ever seen Mizutani play. It almost brings tears to my eyes to see someone at that level so willing to play against type and to try new things because he wants to win.
  6. Any Service Advice for Me?

My serving coach has the philosophy that if your serve is slow it gives the opponent time to read the spin and the serve usually bounces high. His preference is for double bounce fast or single bounce fast.
  7. Any Service Advice for Me?

Thanks - none of the serves were designed to be fast and long. They were all designed to be short, but as fast and spinny as I can execute with double bounce length.
  8. Solo Drills

Yes, I forgot about floor serves and bed serves. In general, anything that replicates and builds up the motions used for your strokes. Tossing Frisbees for backhand and reverse serving, or even whipping towels to improve the whip action on your strokes.
  9. Solo Drills

Here is another good practice too - you can build yours: http://g03.a.alicdn.com/kf/HTB12vixIpXXXXakXVXXq6xXFXXXq/-font-b-Tennis-b-font-concentrate-fully-dedicated-device-tee-device-font-b-table-b.jpg I also find ball bouncing and ball control drills fairly helpful for practicing my touch.
  10. Solo Drills

    1. Don't throw the ball up. Loop out of your hand. Or make the toss pretty small and not a high one. 2. Or bounce the ball on the floor or table and then do your stroke. Both are different from tossing the ball up - they present a different kind of challenge and are helpful.
  11. NYC Manhattan area?

Here is another more obvious example - notice how the ball kicks out after the stroke. You would think that with all the effort he doesn't need it but he does it anyway. And Zhang Jike

    That kid is good....
  13. NDH Practice Match

Too much topspin, too little sidespin.
  14. Kuwait Open 2016

Let me try to reproduce it again - there is pure snake draw and randomized snake draw. A pure snake draw has 1 and 2 on opposite sides then 2 plays 3 and 1 plays 4. At every stage of the draw, the higher rated opponent is guaranteed the lowest possible opponent he can play. So 1 would play...
  15. NDH Practice Match

When you remove the time between points, it is easy to watch any match in less than 10 minutes, usually 5 unless it is a pro 7-setter. Take this example. Or this: It just makes it easier to take interest. Watching match highlights when you don't know the players or the score is like a...
  16. NDH Practice Match

Just give me the whole match with all the points with the time between the points edited. That always provides more info than highlights. Even pros miss serves too.
  17. NDH Practice Match

I am saying that the amount of spin you get with the plastic ball is significantly less and that trying to get it to the same level with celluloid exposes you to injuries, yes. I would be seriously surprised if he hasn't experienced that people are countering his openings much more easily...
  18. NDH Practice Match

You are right, and these are highlights so it might be missing. But the point is that none of these serves tested your ability to attack over the table and the one or two in the highlights that came short were consistently pushed deep, with very few pushed short. Again, this is a matter of...
  19. NDH Practice Match

The injuries just haven't set in yet - we can revisit in a year or two.
  20. NDH Practice Match

Yes. There isn't enough short serving at the lower levels to contain the first attack. Not saying it would make a huge difference because these guys block and counter well, but it's always a good idea to see if someone is willing to fight for the first attack or not. No evidence of that in...
