Imo, slow setups only help you to mask inherent problems which is a lack of spin understanding (what is coming and your options to manipulate the spin), bad footwork, incorrect arm movement, lack of use of body to control the ball, etc... Regardless of setup, just solve these issues one by one.

For finger usage: For body usage, it is all about the hips. I wouldn't say the setup matters a lot - it is more about stroke principles.
