  1. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

On the other end of the spectrum are venues with slippery af flooring that would cause falls and other accidents. No way i can do any of the footwork and weight transfer aggressively in those venues. Fml lol. My old training partner (the one with the LP/inverted penhold playstyle) had some...
  2. How do I chop serve with my rubber? ( Stiga Dragon Grip)

If you dont want sidespin, dont drop your wrist (ie paddle pointing down) and use more of a 'hook' grip. One helpful tip is after contacting the ball pull the racket backwards and upwards with the racket tip pointing upwards at the end. Basically racket pointing down = pendulum sidebackspin...

I have played on high friction tables in another venue, but i could adjust to that. But this combination (high friction table + high friction and high suction flooring) is really killer, because a lot of the micro adjustments with the feet are simply too difficult to execute. And having to work...
  4. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

I can continuously loop like 10-20 balls against choppers at my usual club and maintain the rally easily, and it felt physically easy to do that. In this new venue, it is not so much the spin, but the shortness of the ball which is really unexpected so I had to reach all the time (like what you...
  5. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Went to a venue I hate... so basically the floor is super soft + sticky/tacky even though it seems like a professional surface. If a ball drops on it from table height, it bounces only maybe 2 times before coming to a complete stop (due to the tackiness). So yeah all balls that come off the...
  6. San Francisco looking for training partner.

This sounds like a kinda W968 like feel? A bit more muted and springier compared to normal Viscaria?
  7. San Francisco looking for training partner.

To elaborate on the lower centre of gravity i made a post on it: https://www.tabletennisdaily.com/forum/topics/posture-to-loopkill-underspin-easily.35049/ So what a lot of ppl get wrong is that they think lower centre of gravity = bending at knees alone which is wrong. A lot of it is actually...
  8. San Francisco looking for training partner.

Damn i just searched for Golden Vis pricing and that is quite a bomb ouch... Think i'll just stick with my normal vis.
  9. San Francisco looking for training partner.

I agree that Dignics or boosted H3 really makes a huge difference in performance too, there is nothing that approaches their performance and shot quality when hitting hard. I tried some other clubmates rackets and they look fine while countering, but when it comes to loopkilling and spin quality...

Yep it sounds like you are on the right track. I also like to do a lot of varied BH to BH countering with some of the older guys in my club (can be anything from flat to sidespin to topspin to even sideunderspin). I got to the point where I can stably do BH countering against almost all players...
  11. What'd be the good strategies as a defender against a good blocker?

Idk, most good defenders I played have massive FH loops which will punish weak balls hard. The pips BH is normally just to generate opportunities for the FH to finish off.

A guy with a certain hidden serve? Haha
  13. Ridiculous reverse pendulum serve secrets

Yeah most ppl are quite bad at receiving hook or reverse pendulum serves. For me just abusing short FH, fast long to BH/middle already gains a huge amount of easy points, it is also quite unsolvable because a lot of players dont have the correct footwork to cover these areas. Also it is not so...
  14. Ridiculous reverse pendulum serve secrets

Yes and also almost the same blade angle! I didnt realize it was possible to disguise reverse pendulum like this. For me the major takeaway is to scoop it upwards. This makes the spin a lot stronger for the sideunderspin serve (i suspect if forward momentum was reduced it would actually be a...
  15. Table Tennis Crisis

Yep and everyone blamed Ma Long for mental problems for losing 3 straight WTTC to Wang Hao when it was really his BH that let him down big time. After he completely overhauled his BH game and switched to Hurricane on BH to get better spin/control, he became the dominant GOAT.
  16. Table Tennis Crisis

To provide a recent example I saw, an amateur penholder 木鱼 got 2 sets off Fang Yinchi (ex CNT national player) which rocked the Chinese amateur TT world (Fang Yinchi won 4-2 in the end). Guy didnt even have much of a BH. He also won a game against Li Ping (ex mixed doubles world champion) before...
  17. Table Tennis Crisis

Yep exactly. Also, what is practice? We need to have a much wider definition of practice other than topspin vs block which is only 1 out of like 100 scenarios that might happen in a match. In fact in some matchups, it just doesnt happen at all! everything in TT starts with serve and serve...
  18. Table Tennis Crisis

Yeah but the training vids are all against simple spins and balls, not more complex irregular balls and not in the context of matchplay. Tbh, he was attacking very confidently with his FH too in the match he was supposedly nervous in (which is indeed quite good), which shows that it wasnt so...
  19. Ridiculous reverse pendulum serve secrets

Damn this was super eye opening and inspiring, I might go try his method of serving reverse pendulum too.
  20. Table Tennis Crisis

what I'm saying (and many others in this thread) is that the technique issues are the fundamental reasons behind his 'mental' issues. If anyone tried looping 10 times and they all miss inexplicably, wouldnt they be tentative and afraid too, resulting in just touching the ball?
