  1. "wrapping" the ball.

I want to post some slowmos of Ovtcharov and also Lin Shidong which adopts this kind of BH stroke structure most visibly. They start with a closed angle, contact the ball at a more open angle (hit) and then it gradually closes as they rotate through the ball (wrapping). This is also supported...
  2. all roads lead to Rome...

There's a joke in Chinese amateur TT circles - switch to illegal treated long pips when you're young and save 50 years of crooked paths (you're gonna end up there anyways when you're old) lol
  3. "wrapping" the ball.

On the "wrapping" itself, what often gets missed is that it only happens during contact (or very close to contact) and continues during the followthrough. There's a couple of Ma Long slowmos that illustrates the sudden shaking of the racket from the pronation/supination during contact. From the...
  4. "wrapping" the ball.

TT is very different from tennis because the inverted rubber (sponge, topsheet) system hitting the ball is very different to strings hitting a ball. Hence the hitting technique and dynamics are also very different. If you took a tennis racket and tried to make a table tennis ball spin you...
  5. "wrapping" the ball.

Yes - there was a Ryu Seung Min video which when someone asked him about racket angle, he actually said it doesn't matter, and demonstrated looping it out with a closed angle, and looping into the net with an open angle. Instead what mattered was where the swing begins (in his case he was...
  6. Do you have an opponent that gives you problems? Let's develop a simple strategy!

Your opponent sounds like me lol... Does he have the chiquita stroke? I hate good blockers, especially if they're He Zhi Wen like penholders who block early and very wide and make me run 😂 I play probably like your opponent with tons of tricky serves and receives. Its annoying to get the...
  7. all roads lead to Rome...

Come on DHS give us some crazy Hurricane that works without boosting :)
  8. I need more warmup

If they refuse to block properly, just take a step back and start looping everything. Even when you're doing high arc balloon loops out of position it is still warming up your topspin mechanism. Even lobbing with spin is still a way to warmup.
  9. Using badminton smash technique to kill high FH short balls

Actually in this same video, Alexis does this badminton style smash hit at roughly 51s except with not a lot of power as he didn't really press down into the ball (probably afraid of misreading the incoming spin) - he does win the point outright with it though!
  10. Using badminton smash technique to kill high FH short balls

I know what you're recommending, I used to do it to until they stop retreating and then just counter whatever drop/block you do because it'll be a slow ball, then you'll have to work hard for the point again. I'm trying to avoid this scenario to win the point more decisively, hence the badminton...
  11. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

No, it's actually my training partner - he knows exactly how to deal with any sidespin or topspin combination I can give him, slow loops or powerloops. It almost never tricks him. Worse, because it's penhold there is no middle for me to exploit, he can do this block whole table really. But if my...
  12. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

Im actually surprised to watch this training these days. I thought the conventional school of thought was to never do the reverse crossover step (ie going from deep FH to wide BH), but really lunge with the left foot and trying to catch the ball with the left foot (so that you can power off it...
  13. Post your latest EJ purchase

Lol not as much as my Viscaria with D05 which I could put out absolute screaming bullets. With Harimoto ALC I have to work a bit harder for those cho lei worthy shots :)
  14. "wrapping" the ball.

My thoughts here. If the racket was directly perpendicular to the ball and travelling in the exact opposite path of the ball, any mistiming would never result in missing the ball and will still result in a solid ball contact (the analogy is a head on collision) . However we all know that is...
  15. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

It usually comes after I do a slightly weaker opening loop either off a good serve receive by the opponent or a long serve most commonly...where I cannot afford to add more quality without taking too much risk of missing. I feel like it's actually easier to get back powerloops than a punch...
  16. Daily Table Tennis Chit Chat

What is a good answer against a dead BH punch block down the line to your wide FH? I find this really annoying 😂 and I keep trying to FH powerloop or slow loop it back but regardless of where I place it, it only gets blocked with pace to my wide BH at which point I am in a very passive position...
  17. "wrapping" the ball.

it will be interesting for someone to calculate the error % on mistimings for a circular stroke with shoulder internal rotation and pronation (bat angle gradually closing) vs a tangential linear stroke - my personal experience is that the tangential linear stroke is much more likely to miss vs...
  18. I need more warmup

Lol at my place everyone loves to make you as uncomfortable as possible with their blocks, no one ever blocks nicely. There's a shit ton of assholes in TT (you can also see such characters in the forum's lol). I've faced anything from short blocks to sidespin blocks to chopblocks to sudden punch...

Found an example of a short high ball 0:13 here
