  1. Bounce with the Ball / Split-Step

In the interest of sharing, I've recorded some of my shadow practices which incorporates the recovery and preparation steps.
  2. EmRatThich says learn w/Max thickness, fast rubber?

I agree - watching Ti Long videos should be mandatory. He teaches many, many very important concepts especially how to use power from the body (and not the arm), and how to brush the ball with the fingers. For Chinese speakers Fang Bo's channel and Sun Hao Hong tutorials are a goldmine too. ERT...
  3. Bounce with the Ball / Split-Step

I don't think there's an "optimal" bounce time per se. The recovery should just be part of a stroke and done in a relaxed natural way, and that should be enough - the body automatically adjusts when you're on the table. I feel like focusing on recovering too fast, may actually impact the...
  4. Bounce with the Ball / Split-Step

Hmm yeah that is strange indeed, I would have thought that having the weight transfer would actually relieve pressure on the right leg because the weight would then be taken by the left leg? Btw I think you're already pushing off quite well in the videos!
  5. Bounce with the Ball / Split-Step

This consistency looks really good! One observation that I had was that it appears that when looping backspin you don't really transfer the weight to the other foot on FH as well as BH, it's mostly down to up movement coming up from a squat. This leaves you upright at the end of the stroke...
  6. Bounce with the Ball / Split-Step

I think for me, the intermediate step back after a push/short receive is already ingrained into my game now. I didn't play for 2-3 weeks and pretty much shadowed it whenever I had some time. Definitely works wonders, because I did serve/receive training yesterday, and my accuracy went up by a...
  7. Longevity of Hybrid rubbers

Hurricane 8-80 is a hybrid, and a pretty good one at that! Spinny af, and also quite durable. I wish they manufactured it at say 39 deg or 40 deg, that would be the perfect FH rubber to use without boosting.
  8. Why does womans game focus on BH to BH exchanges?

I find it pretty hard to deviate away from BH-BH in my own games too - usually players target BH area all the time (serves/receives/pushes/blocks) and it is very hard to pivot without being punished. The other major advantage of BH is it's flexibility - I can use it easily with both short and...
  9. Why does womans game focus on BH to BH exchanges?

Not just the women, but also the men - just watch for e.g. Harimoto vs Liang Jingkun - it's chock full of just BH-BH. The modern BH game punishes the FH pivot game a lot harder compared to the past especially with the sudden fade BHs down the line.
  10. World Table Tennis Championships 2023

Fan Zhendong just way too strong compared to Wang Chuqin. Those topspin rallying skills are just out of this world. He was probably winning like 70-80% of all the balls that went into topspin-topspin mode, just unbelievable! The only hope that Wang Chuqin had was trickery in his advanced...
  11. World Table Tennis Championships 2023

Wow SYS playing perfect table tennis to avoid the serve/3rd ball patterns/tactics of Chen Meng. She is unrivalled in the rally and she proves to the world that she is finally no.1 even in big competitions after a string of 2nd place finishes.
  12. The Chinese Domination of Table Tennis!!!

See for eg a recent badminton match - this is the level that TT has to match in order to compete.
  13. Longevity of Hybrid rubbers

    It's all planned obsolescence :)
  14. The Chinese Domination of Table Tennis!!!

Tbh, it doesn't really matter who is dominating - it's all about the presentation and WTT has dropped the ball big here. For eg Korean dramas and music has close to 0 European/American presence but they have gone real big.
  15. The Chinese Domination of Table Tennis!!!

Doesn't help that WTT organises all these events with hardly anyone in the stands, cringe af music and worse camera angles and unprofessional presentation. Hard to get ppl interested if these rank amateurs are at the helm of the sport. TT should just hire some of the planning and marketing...
  16. World Table Tennis Championships 2023

Wang Chuqin is the underdog in this matchup and he'll need to pull 120% of his ability to win this. I think Fan Zhendong will still take this. Chen Meng vs Sun Yingsha is harder to predict - Sun Yingsha is favoured but Chen Meng won the last time they met so I think Chen Meng will win this.
  17. World Table Tennis Championships 2023

How can I watch Hayata's game? It's region locked when I try to watch :(
  18. World Table Tennis Championships 2023

I think it'll be WCQ vs Fan Zhendong in the finals with Fan Zhendong taking it for the 2nd time (sorry WCQ!)
  19. Are Lebrun brothers just developing a permanent reputation for bad sportsmanship?

Agreed, before this we had Chen Weixing and Zhang Jike who had similar "bad" attitudes which definitely spiced up the games haha. Players in other sports are way, way worse...
  20. World Table Tennis Championships 2023

The side/edge in Ma Long vs Eugene Wang's case seems to be quite borderline because the ball kinda looks like it went off on a flatish angle - very hard to tell whether it's upwards or not. This is why we need Hawkeye systems in important tournaments with a challenge system. Umpires just cannot...
