  1. Horrible backhand, stiff wrist.

The main thing that stood out to me is how the free arm (non racket playing arm) is not used which results in the stroke becoming unbalanced. Otherwise it actually seems like a decent BH especially on the opening loop. The other issue is having the stance being way too narrow which results in...
  2. Bounce with the Ball / Split-Step

It's incredibly hard to incorporate completely new concepts at the table I found, usually what I do is massive amounts of shadow training and visualisation to get the feeling, and when I hit the table usually the muscle memory is already reformed. There will be remnants of the old muscle memory...
  3. Bounce with the Ball / Split-Step

I did some shadow training on this, and I found that having that intermediate step is not slower than doing what I did previously (1 full step back). Like what you mentioned i feel like my steps are a lot lighter when I reach the split step from the intermediate step because it's less drastic of...
  4. Wait for tackiness to wear off?

Hurricane 8-80 is not your typical tacky rubber because the sponge is quite responsive and lively, so this problem is not that significant with it. I came from 09c and didn't feel that using H8-80 was a lot more physically difficult. In fact when I first switched - a lot of my loops were flying...
  5. Why do I get so nervous when playing a match?

There's one tip I got on mytt earlier with using the nonracket arm to support the racket during serve receive. I found it allows me to completely relax my playing arm during the receive. It's harder to relax it when it's holding the weight of the racket. Among the pros I saw Wang Chuqin and Lim...
  6. WTT Macao 2023

Watched the match. It was indeed a very high quality match. Lim Jonghoon doesn't seem to be dealing with Dima's rhythm well and missed way too many counterloops that he would have made against other players. Dima definitely played very well and seemed quite fresh after his break.

    How did Lim lose?!
  8. Why do only Chinese players use DHS rubbers?

I believe quite a lot of Korean players with very strong FHs use DHS hurricanes, off the top of my head I count Jang Woo Jin, Lim Jonghoon and An Jaehyun.
  9. Bounce with the Ball / Split-Step

I watched a lot more ML matches and this half step is always present after he pushes a short ball. I'm convinced of your explanation and will try to incorporate this. It does make sense because I also incorporate this intermediate step when stepping in (which makes it easy and smooth) rather...
  10. New "Rules" for Table Tennis

You can serve from the side of the table as long as the contact point stays outside the end lines still. What is not allowed is serving from inside the end line. At least that's my understanding of the service rules.
  11. Bounce with the Ball / Split-Step

You're right, there is an intermediate step here in the video you shown too. I'm wondering why is there an intermediate step (halfway between full lunge and final split step), isn't it just easier to go straight to the split step? I don't do the intermediate step personally and am wondering if...
  12. Bounce with the Ball / Split-Step

Yep that recovery bounce helped me a lot too. Imo, the recovery after a short serve receive is a lot more complex and I don't fully understand it yet. Because you're already in a lunge position with the weight on the front foot (right), it feels a lot harder to come back. Some coaches online say...
  13. Bounce with the Ball / Split-Step

I am also interested to hear someone analyse this short push footwork especially the recovery that Ma Long is using here.
  14. Bounce with the Ball / Split-Step

I've been tinkering with footwork and weight transfer a lot these days. Like what you said, rhythm and timing of the footwork is extremely important. The split step is taught in badminton and tennis all the time but is not really talked about much in English TT for some unknown reason. From my...
  15. WTT Champions Xinxiang 2023

I'm pretty sure you'll go to jail anywhere else in the world if you shared explicit intimate videos of your girlfriend without permission from her. Also communist countries are not supposed to have thriving stock and property markets plus extreme income inequality levels worse than the US 😂...
  16. Is it the right approach to try to return every backspin serve with a backhand flick?

Against extreme pure backspin it even needs to be on the side + bottom of the ball even unless your spin production ability exceeds that of your opponent.
  17. New "Rules" for Table Tennis

Are you sure he served it inside the table? I think it's borderline, but there were a lot of calls on serving within the end line this tournament (even LJK got called) ie they were watching it like a hawk, but Lim was not called out. Also backwards throw is allowed up to an angle of 30 deg.
  18. New "Rules" for Table Tennis

Most pros serve at the borderline for sure. The rules for serving is for hiding the ball, not the blade. You can hide the blade as much as you want to except during contact. So what most good servers do is to hide the blade at most of the time except during ball contact.
  19. Is it the right approach to try to return every backspin serve with a backhand flick?

If it crosses the middle point between the net and the end of the table on the 2nd bounce, it will almost certainly go out of the table on the 2nd bounce.
