    You mean pushing no spins?

I should clarify, I don't mean pushing no spins off the bounce, that's actually quite difficult as you mentioned. I meant pushing them at a later timing, e.g. my preference is while it's falling. It won't be as high quality, but it's a lot safer and gives you more options to drop short or long...

Yes, if I know what's coming. One of my clubmates is ~2000 level and he does it to my topspin services pretty often in real game situations. We used to have a BH anti player, maybe 1500-1600 level, who would do it often with his inverted side against my topspin services as well. So it's not THAT...

Yes, it's very easy to do once you've practiced it even a few times. You just need to catch it right off the bounce with the right racket angle. The problem is getting to it right off the bounce. You need to recognize that it's short, where it's gonna land, and move your feet there right as it...

Pushing topspins short and low is more a footwork and recognition problem. I'm not sure if that's what @blahness is referring to. The typical side-top services are more side than top, they can be pushed reasonably low (i.e. twice net height, which is not very low and pretty easily flicked by...

I do agree that it's almost never nerves, it's stability and adaptability of one's strokes. You're at a level where you SHOULD be improving rapidly, as there are no "key" things to focus on right now. You still have low hanging fruits everywhere. Most adult beginners hit a wall somewhere in the...

I don't think that's it. It's pretty natural to brake with the left foot, and doesn't necessarily involve standing up. You can see in the video that ZJK doesn't do that and he doesn't over-rortate. I think it's something more akin to a filler step, something that helps with the next movement...

My FH seems to be coming along nicely, a more forward going motion and a bit more looseness in the wrist were pretty easy to do. The other parts, e.g. arm motion driven almost entirely on body motion, no over rotation, more weight on the right leg etc. are all progressing very well. Just gonna...

If it lasts more than 4 hours you should seek immediate medical assistance

I did some footwork shadow practice, and found out why I don't kick my left foot to go right. The reason is because when I'm doing FH practice, right after the shot I would start shifting weight back to the right foot to prepare for the next shot. By the time I realize the ball is going to my...

Yeah, maybe it's just a difference in focus. You're right that often you can't meet the ball with your elbow without moving your feet and repositioning your body. I think I'm right now doing too much finding the ball with my hand, so thinking of it more as finding the ball with my elbow may...

As I pointed out earlier in my post about Movileanu, Sidorenko has a very predictable game and IMO is just a one trick pony. He benefitted from the lack of exposure of Russian athletes earlier, surprised a lot of people with his aggressive lefty step-around FH game, but I think the honeymoon...

Are you referring to the FH or BH? That's certainly something I'm working on for the FH side, and it's been a focus for the past week or so. So many things to fix, but so little can be worked on each session! I think my next session will be focused on the correct body movement to propel my...

I had a lesson yesterday, helped confirm some recent findings and also learned some new things. On the FH side, the coach confirmed the benefits of keeping the wrist loose and the racket head up. Apparently the racket head should be adjusted based on the spin, height, and timing of the ball...

Ha, you're like a club mate of mine, who's also playing more badminton these days and has told me about his new appreciation of footwork and power generation. As for the foot direction thing, I think I mentioned it a long time ago here. My belief is that that's the primary purpose of the...

She didn't play in the qualifiers though?

I tried the OS for ~1 month as well. My initial thought was the same as yours, "oh, it's just H3", but after using it for a while longer I found out its issues. It really happens when you hit into the sponge, then you feel that it doesn't have the dwell of the BS.
  18. China Smash 2026, Beijing, 10/1-11

Wow he played well, really continuing his great form. Unlike that Russian guy who seemed to have some predictable strengths and tactics, he seems like a pretty complete player. Short game, counters, power, footwork, looks like WCQ out there.
  19. China Smash 2026, Beijing, 10/1-11

It gives you more power, but at the expense of recovery and to a less extent control. Since they're defenders they're not as concerned about recovery and their equipment is slower so control is fine too.

Had another training session today, this time with a better player (than me, that is). My coach was giving someone else a lesson, and afterwards he watched us a bit and gave me some pointers. As mentioned before, I've been dealing with a wrist injury. I was trying to make some adjustments, but...
