  1. In or Out?

Not enough frames to judge accurately but it does look very much like a side. But the umpire was closest to the action

So low and yet no knee bands.
  3. Simon Gauzy and Shibaev Bust Up at Europe Top 16

This is one of the most significant but obscure rules in table tennis. I say obscure as the vast majority of TT players are unaware of it. The answer is that it's a let. That is, a receiver on trying to return a serve that has hit the net, cannot obstruct (or volley, as in tennis) the ball. It's...
  4. Simon Gauzy and Shibaev Bust Up at Europe Top 16

OK, I can' resist. One more scenario. Suppose this happened at the start of rally. That is, Gauzy serves. The ball hits the net, then the post, and bounces upwards towards the table on Shibaev's side. Shibaev hits the ball onto the table on Gauzy's side. Gauzy fails to retrieve. Whose point?
  5. Simon Gauzy and Shibaev Bust Up at Europe Top 16

I was trying to make posters think how far we could go with this. I have seen many versions over the years. As said above, if the ball was over or heading towards the table when Shibaev hit it, then it would be an obstruction by Shibaev. Point to Gauzy
  6. Simon Gauzy and Shibaev Bust Up at Europe Top 16

Answer depends on the scenario. If the ball was, in the unpire's view, heading for the table, then it's obstruction. If it was heading away from the table, then no obstruction as you said.
  7. Simon Gauzy and Shibaev Bust Up at Europe Top 16

The ball has gone in the air. AS hit the ball whilst it was not over the table. How can you say it's an obstruction?
  8. Simon Gauzy and Shibaev Bust Up at Europe Top 16

Let's stretch this one some more. Suppose the ball on hitting the net post had bounced upwards. Shibaev hit the ball onto Gauzy's side of the table. Gauzy fails to retrieve. Whose point?

Correct. Not a lot of players know that
  10. Simon Gauzy and Shibaev Bust Up at Europe Top 16

Suppose A plays to B a ball that hits the net, falls and bounces from that part of the clamp that's over the table onto the floor. Whose point?
  11. Ma Long's free arm?

Body adjustment compass To date, that is the best phrase to describe this action that I have heard. That active free hand technique was very popular among coaches in the nineties. I got the impression that it was developed by the Swedes. I know that I tend to use it as unfortunately my bat...
  12. Matthew Syed

He would be a WR top 100 player Adding to Baal's appraisal, Syed was an old style retriever defender. He manipulated the spin on the 38mm ball to both fool the attacker or wear him down. His attack was mainly pick hits when he caused his opponent to pop up the ball. At his best he would have...

All that video demonstrates is how speed glue, used in extremis, almost destroyed the sport.

We'll see. IMO all the hallmarks are there. The strange language. The accurate info mixed with outright bs. The way he draws in people. Plus the sock puppets where he is praising himself.

NL, your experience and level is important. But you've contributed enough that it is obvious where you are coming from. Most times you refer to the source as supporting evidence for the information and advice that you pass on. Way to go, in my opinion.
